I believe that you have to be ordained and licensed in the state you plan on performing the ceremony in- if not, it may not be legally binding.

The other answers here offered advice on how to become ordained, but if you're asking about the mechanics of actually writing/performing a wedding ceremony, try these links:

There's a group here on Yahoo for wedding officiants. It's a professional organization, but you can request a membership and see what they say...

Good Luck!

Are you good at public speaking? Organizing? Planning? Taking charge when necessary? Able to write well?
Some states only require ordination. Others require ordination & licensing by the state (as here in Ohio). Some states recognize certain churches & their ordination, others do not.
And some will give you a one-day-pass for just this sort of thing. You need to check with your state's/county's requirements.

Go to
www.ULC.net You can get ordained in like 5-10 mins. I believe that they even give you sample wedding ceremony readings (both religious and non religious) Hope this helps you out. By the way, this is a legal ordination and its free. Depending on your state you might have to register...they'll give you the details.

It depends upon where the marriage takes place. In Florida, a notary can perform a wedding ceremony. In other states, they cannot. Check with your local court house (or the local court house where the wedding is scheduled).
