We must have a few dozen volcanoes in America. Why don't we just take all of our garbage and dump it into them. The nice hot magma will eat it all up. I'll bet we can even throw really bad crap in there, like nuclear waste.

We can, (well you can, I'm British :P), there are numerous problems though
*when you burn (as you would with dumping stuff in volcanos) plastics you get some seriously nasty chemicals, the enviromental impact of this would be caatastrophic
*getting the waste there is difficult, thankfully most volcanoes are far away from main population centres and the distance you would have to travel is too great.
*It won't look nice, volcanoes are beautiful, if dangerous things and people like to walk up them, aorund nearby hiils and such like. tonnes of garbage lorries wheeling up the side won't do much for the image
*when (or if) the volcano erupts all the rubbish will be spewed into the air, either in burnt toxic cinders or toxic ash, which could easily cause cancers, asmha and other nasties. Imaging if there is nuclear waste in with it too - high tempuratures won't destroy that
*You are presumably thinking off filling up the craters, but that will probably happen in a week, if that. Britian, a country of 60 million could probably fill up a crater of a volcano a day in rubbish. America with a popultion of 300 million, would do it by mid morning.

What a moronic idea. Think of all the pollution from burning garbage. And the few active volcanos we have couldn't accommodate all the garbage we have anyway. And let's not even think of nuclear waste. What are you, some kind of idiot? Burning nuclear waste will destroy the world's ecosystem.

The same reason that they dont put all the garbage in the world into the belly of rockets and send them into the sun....
I.E. its impractical....
First what type of truck would you use to haul it up the side of what is basically a mountain?
secondly what type of psycho death wish thrill seeker would drive it up and down the side of an active volcano for a living?
Also with the price of gas would you be willing to pay an extra 20% for every thing you buy just so some fool could haul it up a mountain so it could be burned?

Imagine burning all of that waste. That would be more pollutive than having it sit in a landfill. I don't think your concept will ever catch on, haha.
