There are glands on each side just inside the anus. Get a paper towel in your hand. use your thumb on one side and first two fingers on the other side of the anus. Squeeze the glands an inch or so towards the body (depending on the size of the dog) and squeeze as you pull outward toward the anus. A foul smelling liquid will come out. Somewhat like popping a zit. You may support/hold the dog around the abdomen with the other arm. Sometimes is squirts in any direction so best to do outside in good light first few times. This shouldn't need to be done unless the dog is scooting on the carpet or showing signs of irritation. Many times the glands empty themselves when the dog has a bowel movement.

Isn't this your best answer? :)

You are really talking about is expressing his anal glands. If you have NO CLUE as to what you are doing, take your dog to the vet and watch. This is no guarantee you will learn it or be any good at it at all.

Indications that your dogs anal glands are impacted and need to be expressed? Dragging his rump on your carpet or grass. A strange but unmistakable and pretty awful odor coming from them if they've drained a bit out on his fur or if you see it on a carpet drag. Most dogs never need this type of human service.

Good Luck.

PS: google dog anal glands and you'll see the diagram that will show you the general location of them.

If your dog will let you, you will have to stick a finger in there and squeeze the anal glands (just inside the anus). You do this by using your index finger on the inside and applying pressure between your index finger and your thumb. You will knoe when the fluid sacks burst. It's kinda gross, but it beats going to the vet. And wear some latex gloves for goodness sake.

Where are those funny faces when you need them.

I guess you could use a suppository if you really felt it necessary to drain it's anus, but if all you want to do is drain it's ANAL GLANDS, just take a soft cloth and squeeze them.

First is your dog dragging its butt on the floor. If so than you need to express the dogs anal glands. This happens usually in puppy's it requires you to squeeze near the anus. It is best if you have your vet teach you exactly but it usually needs to be done every six months.

You don't drain their anus, you express their anal glands.
I would suggest going to your vet when having it done the first time, so that they can show you the proper technique, as it can be very messy. Also, you don't really need to have it done/do it yourself. Your vet will let you know what to do/how to do it, if it ever needs to be done.

Why would you need to do this? Even if you mean to express his anal glands, a healthy diet and plenty of exercise does it naturally.

if you are not sure of to perform this procedure then take your dog to the vet.
i am not trying to be rude but you can also harm the animal if you do not know what to do.
Good Luck
