I'd say follow that advice..You're puppy's probably lonely, but he'll get used to sleeping by himself eventually.Maybe you could crate him instead of just letting him stay in that open room,a lot of times that makes them feel better-safer-as crazy as that sounds. It reminds them of a den.Put a towel in there, and a toy,but try not to give in to the whining.Trust me,I know that it's way easier said than done, but it will end soon with any luck.

Buy your puppy a crate. Have him sleep in there with some soft towels to lie on.
Expect crying. You are trying to wear him out before bed, that's perfect. This stage usually passes in about 2 weeks. Once the puppy is a little more mature and is used to the crate he will only cry a little at first. Also, cover his crate with a towel or blanket to make it more private and secure for him.
But it is absolutely imperative that he has a crate to sleep in. This will become his safety zone, his own space. He will settle much quicker in a crate than in a room with a bed or blanket.

Also, give him a light meal about 2 hours before bed. Puppies will usually go poo within 15 minutes after a meal. Having a full tummy and empty bowel will help. Also, have him in another room. He will settle faster. If he knows you are right by him he will whine even longer. Try to have him in the crate and stay nearby for 5 minutes and talk soft to him, but do not take him out. Then after about 5 minutes go ahead and leave the room. Make sure the room is warm enough as well. Crates will help hold a little heat for him, too.

Just be patient. If you do these things I guarantee it will work out just fine.

I have raised lots of dogs and help others with training.
Also, your puppy sounds very young. You will need to deworm him every two weeks and complete the distemper booster series.

Good luck!

Get your puppy a night crate - which may be useful later on if you need to keep him in a contained space.

The tried and true ticking clock sound still works wonders. However, getting him riled up and playing right before bed time might be a problem -- consider winding down a little longer at night.

Crate training takes time and patience. As another person mentioned give him a woobie (favorite toy) and something that smells like you. As soon as your puppy learns that night time is night time, he won't like it, but he'll stop whining.

Eventually, he'll be house broken and he will be able to sleep with you -- it will simply take some time to get him there. Some puppies are quick and some are slow on the learning curve.

Patience, patience, patience and remember that it's you training the dog, not the other way around...

Good Luck.

Listen to whoevers telling you to let him whine. My dog had the exact same problem. JUst let him whine and he will get tired of whinning so he will stop. BUt the first couple of nights let him sleep in your bed just so he can get used to the enviorment. He feels safest around you because you probably are the one he knows best in this new world you brought him into. so for the first few nights let him sleep with you. But if you are putting him in a crate and locking it at night he might not enjoy being locked up in his crate and he will never stop crying. I know this because my dog hates being locked up in his crate. He will cry all night long until I open it. So if this is the problem just leave the gate open and close your bedroom door. I Hope I helped. Good Luck

You're right, you can't give in to him. It'll take a while with a young puppy, but he will learn. I think maybe the best thing you can do for him is let him sleep in a crate in your room. That way he'll be confined for the night where he's safe, but he'll feel less isolated if he's closer to you. Once he's reliably house trained and past the chewing stage, he doesn't have to sleep in the crate if you'd rather leave him loose. That's the way I've always done it with my dogs. Good luck!

Unfortunately you have to let him whine. He is asking for attention and you cant always give him that because then he will know that whenever he whines you'll come running. I know its hard but you have to ignore him. I had to with my puppy, and now she's good. Its tough but just try it for a while and he'll get better. It also might help if you get a clock-the ticking kind and put that in with him. It will remind him of his moms heartbeat and should calm him down a little more

The puppy is likely missing his littermates.
Make him a bed and put a clock under the blankets so when he lays down he will hear the ticking and think it is another living thing.
I have never had to do this but I am told it will stop the lonesomeness. Put something in the bed that has your smell on it as well.

Where does your puppy sleep? The best place for a puppy to sleep is in a crate close to your bed, so he can see you, and feel safe. You should ignore the whining, if you are sure it`s not because he needs to go outside and pee.

give him a hot water bottle under his bedding to make it comfortable for him and leave a radio on so that he isnt left alone in complete silence all night. This will give him the slight interaction and comfort he is whining for.

I would say to let him whine. Don't pay attention to him. If you do, he will probably get used to whining to get his way. I didnt think that ignoring the dogs' whining would work, btu my dog has learned it doesnt get anything. Good luck with it though!
