Here is the one that I use whenever I bake a cake. It is really good and everyone enjoys it. I hope that you will also like it too.
Buttercream Icing I
(My favorite version for decorating)
2 sticks butter, room temperature
2 cups Crisco shortening
1 teaspoon butter flavoring (Wilton’s makes the best flavored version)
1 teaspoon vanilla (I use Wilton’s Clear Vanilla)
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 pounds powdered cane sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon meringue powder (optional but the texture will be smoother)* Meringue powder can be found in craft stores/Walmart that sell Wilton baking pans and tips.
Water as necessary (I usually add about 2 tablespoons but you may need more or less depending on the humidity in your neighborhood)
In the mixer, mix butter, Crisco shortening, and salt together to incorporate, about 5 minutes on low.
Add almond, butter and vanilla extracts. Mix together well. Add about 1 pound of powdered sugar and the meringue powder and mix.
Add 1/2 cup of powdered sugar at a time and mix until you get the consistency you want.
Add a little milk, a teaspoon at a time, if necessary to thin the frosting. Blend well on low for several minutes.
Use immediately or cover and refrigerate. NOTE: Buttercream Icing will last for weeks as long as it is well sealed.
This icing is used for icing cakes and cookies as well

I have come to love this recipe from Wilton because it mixes the best of homemade and fluffy bakery icings...
Extra Special Buttercream Icing
This icing is similar to the flavor and has a medium consistency like bakery icing. It is ideal for frosting and borders.
2 cups solid vegetable shortening*
2 lbs. confectioners' sugar (There are 4 cups to a pound)
1/2 tsp. salt
1-2 tsp. clear vanilla or your favorite flavoring
6-8 oz. whipping cream
Cream shortening until fluffy. Add sugar and continue creaming until well-blended.
Add salt, flavoring and whipping cream; blend on low speed until moistened.
Beat at high speed until icing is fluffy.
Extra-Special Buttercream icing needs to be refrigerated, both after it is made and when it is placed on a cake. It will keep 3-5 days in the refrigerator.
*You may substitute 1 cup butter or margarine plus 1 cup solid vegetable shortening to achieve a more buttery taste.
Yield: 7 1/2 cups.

This delicious frosting can be made into peanut butter frosting by stirring in about 1/2 cup of peanut butter after it's made; or chocolate frosting by beating in 2 squares melted unsweetened chocolate at the very end.
INGREDIENTS:
* 1 cup butter, softened
* 6-7 cups powdered or confectioner's sugar
* 1/4 tsp. salt
* 6-9 Tbsp. milk
* 2 tsp. vanilla
PREPARATION:
In large bowl, cream butter until very fluffy. Add part of the sugar and salt and beat again. Continue adding sugar and milk in small batches, alternately, beating until very fluffy. Stir in vanilla. Fill and frost cake.

In super bowl, cream shortening and butter with electric powered mixer. upload vanilla. steadily upload sugar, one cup at a time, beating properly on medium velocity. Scrape sides and backside of bowl often. while all sugar has been jumbled together, icing will look dry. upload milk and beat at medium velocity till gentle and fluffy. save bowl lined with a damp fabric till waiting to apply.
