Actually, Saul was a spy who realized he could never kill all the Christians, so instead 'converted' and started teaching, guiding Christianity to be roman-friendly, introducing roman rituals to the Christian church.
Saul was a spy and a secret agent, he was never a believer. Saul broke many of Jesus's teachings and commands, including that of the Great Commissioning. Jesus said very clearly that his mission was for the lost Jews, *NOT* the Gentiles. But Saul hit a snag with Jews who knew their religion well enough to know Jesus violated practically every messianic prophecy, so went instead to the Gentiles, in DIRECT violation of Jesus's teachings, because they wouldn't know the prophecies.
Saul would have died to protect his secret because if it had come out that he was a spy and secret agent, all his work in corrupting the early church would have been removed, erased, and forgotten. Only by dying and keeping up appearances could his changes be made permanent.
Saul sacrificed his life for Caesar, not Jesus.

It is possible that a beautiful woman could knock on my door, then turn in to a dragon and eat me. Possible - but very, very unlikely.

Paul wasn't an atheist. He was a Pagan before he was a Christian. Get some education.
