Serious answers please as I really do want to make the cakes in the recipe.

Okay!!! for all the people who can't read.... ha ha!! I should have known you guys couldn't resist the silly answer or the sarcastic remark!

For the other genuine answers.... I am English and live in France - niether countries have 'sticks' of butter.

4oz or 1/2 cup level with the top of the measuring cup.

A lot of cook books will give you a convertor chart so check the back of the front cover or near the last page. It will help you a lot. I have some cookbooks that give metric equivilants as well.

Fill your measuring cup with hot water and pour out but do not wipe dry and your butter will slide right out.

1 stick = 8 Tbl = 4 oz = 1/2 cup = 24 tsp

A pound of butter in four quarter sticks means that each stick is a quarter pound of butter. Each stick has a measurement marker on the stick covering to tell you how many tablespoons or teaspoons are contained in that slic from the stick.

There is 1/2 cup of butter in 1 stick of butter. I just had to look last night for my cookies I had made!

Most sticks have the measurements right on the wrapper, usually 8 tablespoons or 1/2 cup

I'm now living in europe, but when I lived in California, it was sold by the pound,and it came in 4 sticks,so I would say a quarter of a pound is one stick.

a stick of butter t me is the length of ya pointty finger and the width so when ya cursing someone with ya index thats a stick of butter hope it helps
