Our College apparently want their bio students to spend the 6th to 8th of december at Juniper Hall, England - ie, walking around the forest in the cold - forest, ie, ticks and Rabies and Sewerman's disease (I REALLY wouldnt tell my students THAT) - - Any idea how I could prepare for it?

Make sure you buy a decent baselayer, i.e thermals. But don't buy cotton ones as if they get wet they stay wet for ages and lose their heat retaining properties. Decent makes include, Icebreaker, Helly Hanson, The North Face, Lowe Alpine.

Also, instead of buying one big thick jacket to keep you warm, it makes sense to buy two or three garments that are lighter and more breatable. This is because if it warms up then you can take off the required layers to maintain a comfortable warmth, whereas if you have big layer you'll probably end up being either too hot or too cold.
Oh and take a flask with you, no mistake about that.

Hope have been of help.

Long, thin wool underwear followed by thicker wool clothes, and windbreakers on the outside. Belive me, I live in Norway...
Sounds like fun. Good luck! :)
