I loved this guy for years and he just married another woman. I am disappointed to not have met her but I am comfortable with the idea of his getting married. We were "involved" in the past and when he moved out of state that relationship ceased. When I finally have a chance to see them and meet this woman. What do I give them? I want to get them something if for none other reason than to congratulate him.

If you are not invited to the wedding, then don't bother.

He is not a "him" anymore, is a "them", so again, if you are not getting something for the couple, then don't give then anything as you are a part of his past that he has moved on from.

Perhaps you mean well. but the worst gift is the unwanted one....

I really don't think it's appropriate for you to get them something unless you were invited to the wedding. It would just cause discomfort for them. If you were invited, remember that the gift isn't for HIM; it's for THEM. But I really wouldn't. They are not going to want a reminder of you in their home. Don't even send them a card. Just be gracious and congratulate them without being too familiar (no hugs, etc). I think that would be in better taste, honestly.

I don't think this gesture would be classy, but a last ditch effort to get him to think about you. And trust me, they will both see it for what it is...even if you think you mean well, you're fooling yourself...

You show an exceptional amount of grace and character. I am impressed.

Since you do not know their taste and style as a couple, or style of home they live in, I would get a Macy's or other main stream department store gift card.

I think this serves 2 purposes, it allows you to show a congratulatory gesture while saying "Get yourself something nice and have a great life"

I don't believe in cash in this specific situation, nor a tacky gift from Wal-Mart. This is a nice in-between.

Again, kudos to you for your classy attitude!

Keep it something that is typically a wedding gift, like a silver picture frame or candlesticks, wine glasses. Nothing personal - that could cause problems between them.

Get them a nice gift basket, bottle of wine, wine glasses, box of chocolates. Its a classy gift, but its not too personal since you don't really know the girl... its pretty much the perfect gift.

How about a gift certificate to a great restaurant in their new area? If you know the guy well, you should be able to pick out a great spot for them. Because you don't know her, be careful about how "intimate" the gift is.
