I've read the statisics and how much a toddler is "supposed" to sleep. I have a big pile of "how to" sleep books.

What I'd like is real information: how many hours a night does (or did if your kids are older) your toddler sleep, how often do they wake up, how many naps, and what time is bedtime.

Thanks for your input!

My little dude will be 3 in January & here is his schedule:
Wake-up around 6:30-7:00 am
Nap: 1:00-2:00
Bedtime: 8:30 (sleeping by then)

He wakes up once in the night usually to crawl into bed with us & then falls right back asleep.

I agree the books are misleading...find a schedule that best fits your child. I have found that all the books are a guideline, go with your gut as no one knows your child better than you.

I'm not sure how many hours of sleep a night a toddler is supposed to have... but my kids don't seem to fit the "mold" when it comes to sleep. My daughter now 12 used to be up all night long when she was 2 to 5... she would nap for an hour or two during the day go to bed at 8 or 9 and then she would be up again at 10, 12, 2... I finally talked to the Dr. and he said to just try to keep her on a schedule. I finally told her if she was going to be awake to play quietly... she's still an insomniac.
My now 4 year old is very similar, but very much a creature of routine. She likes to go to bed at 10 after a story and she wakes at 6:30 every morning. She naps two hours during the day. (if only we could bottle that energy)
My neighbors kids are 9, 8 and almost 2 they all go to bed at 7 and wake at 7 the next day? So I guess it just depends on the kid and the schedule.
Good luck.

My daughter is 34 months and sleeps about 10 hours each night. She usually goes to bed around 9:00. Some nights she doesn't wake up at all and some nights she wakes up but goes right back to sleep. She does take a nap for about 2 hours during the day.

I have a friend who has a baby that only sleeps about 6 hours per night and most of the time doesn't take naps during the day. The baby is 19 months.

Just like adults, each child is different.

As toddlers, my three kids slept about 10 to 11 hours with 2 hour nap during the day. They all napped until they were about 4 years old. My youngest will be 5 next and still will nap about twice a week. My two younger children (5 and 8) have always gone to bed around 8:30 or 9:00 and my oldest (13 y/o) just recently starting staying up to 10:00.

In bed by 9:30. Up by 8:30. Sometimes he wakes up in the middle of the night but usually puts himself back to sleep. On average, he takes a one hour nap from 2 to 3 in the afternoon. He`s 19 months now. He`s a pretty active kid so maybe thats why he sleeps so well.

My daughter is almost 2 and she sleeps about 9 to 10 hours a night. She is in daycare during the week and has about a 2 1/2 hour nap there. On weekends she naps for 3 hours sometimes.

My 20 month old daughter goes to bed around 9 (I know, it's late) and sleeps until about 7 am (usually waking once or twice only for a short time). She naps for a couple hours in the day usually from about 12-2 pm.

Mine averages about 10 hours per night. Hes 3 1/2. Also, he usually gets 1-1 1/2 hour nap per day...

He has always slept through the night. But I tell ya, if I would let him he would stay up all night long! He goes to bed every night at 8:30.. later on weekends if I am up too.

My 2 1/2 year old sleeps about eight hours a night. She tends to get one nap around noon and wakes up between one and two o'clock. Then if she has had a nap she will go to bed about ten at night and will get up between six and seven. She stays busy all day long and sometimes she will not even take a nap. I hope this helps.

My son is 2 1/2 and he sleeps maybe 8 hours a night, with up to a two-hour nap a day. His bedtime is 9 p.m., mainly because he's up by 5 a.m. everyday. He's been sleeping through the night since about 6 months.
