There is no point in praying, I learned that long ago.

That "thy will be done" crap is just the slacker cop-out answer for laziness!
The Bible clearly tells us what the will of God is. And some things are going to happen regardless of what we do, pray, or say. Other things have a very definitive "IF" attached to them. For example, healing is a guarantee to the people of God - both Old Testament and New. But the only thing that ensures the guarantee is the responsibility given to the believer. And so, the problem we see in the 21st century with "unanswered prayers," is we have people who go and get doctorate degrees to explain away why the vast majority of the people who name the name of Christ aren't experiencing what the Word of God clearly says we have a right to expect to be experiencing. But a trillion Th.D's or Ph.Ds' do not change the Word of God. And if the explanation is that God is no longer doing His part, then we most definitly have a problem seeing as how God has clearly stated what the responsibility of the believer is in order to ensure these blessings He has promised.
If a person's prayers go unanswered it's because they gave up on the thing in the middle of the work in progress. Or they got into disobedience to the Word of God in some area or another and put things on hold. Or James, in his epistle, explains that they asked amiss that they might consume the thing they ask on their own lusts.
Does anything get done by one step? Does a huge building get built by one nail hammered into one piece of wood? I've never seen where it does. Some prayers do get answered instantly. Most prayers, however, will be a process of continuing to hammer nails, so to speak, until the thing they're believing for comes to pass.
By the way, just as God will not force His blessings on us, neither will He bless or reward laziness. If we don't want it enough to persevere, why should He take up all the slack???

That is a common and respectful way of consoling a friend for failure to get what one wants in life instead of saying the truth that "It's your fault, you did not work for what you are asking for". God Blesses the one that live according to his laws which means He does not control your life but He blesses you with good things if you know how to live in righteousness.
Try to find wisdom from His words and understand it deeper and you will see that all your prayers are answered more than what you are asking for. Remember King Solomon who only asked for wisdom as a King who would rule Israel and God granted him wealth, power and a great Kingdom. Not obtaining anything from a prayer is a form of an answer.

there are 2 kinds of answers..... yes and no
God will say yes to those prayers that reflect his perfect will.... he will say no to them otherwise. when you pray, it helps to ask if this is a misdirected request or something that God would want for you...
Also, even good prayers that seem to go unanswered may reflect someone giving up too quick when there seems to be no answer. Some times patience is needed and God will eventually answer with a yes. A delay is not a denial...

Well that's becasue many christians misconstrue what is meant by prayer. Prayer is just a way of expressing and being thankful for what you have, not to ask for something. Man is the creator of his own world, subjectively, so that he may forfill some purpose of his being in this world. God only provides the world, he does not control the functions of that world, because in the end only you and god know what the ultimate agenda was, and how to reach it. So to ask for something that you already have, and god does not control is redundent and futile. I wish you well.

I have come to realize over time that God does answer prayers - usually by revealing something to us through others, or by your sensitivity to the Holy Spirit will confirm approval, disapproval, wait; or you get the answer from another Christian. ...(persons who waver in their belief gets frustrated when the answer they want doesn't come (or it takes a long time) and they say/think God don't answer pray --- I struggled with that point for quiet awhile!
Another key point is to get alone with the Lord and develop your relationship with Him and sometimes it takes more than prayer to get results.... you may have to do a fast and search your heart/life and get rid of things(unhealthy relationships/adultery,stealing, telling lies on people, abusing alcohol/drugs/kids/spouse etc) that are causing you trouble and hindering your belief and trust in God.

It is written ask and you shall receive. How can you receive if you don't ask? Sometimes we just don't like the answer we get, sometimes the answer is no, but prayers are answered. Besides it is also a form of communication with our Savior. A good format to pray by is praise, confess, and ask

God always answers prayer - No, yes, wait. He is a God of love and mercy - He does hear us. He sees the big picture though, we only see in part. He is in control of the whole world and is making things come about through ordinary people - doing miraculous things. Sometimes good things, sometimes bad - but to His glory. He is so good. I pray you find the Truth - Jesus Christ. Blessings.

Prayer isin't there for us to demand something from God. We pray so we can grow closer to God. How can you get to know your Father if you never talk to him? Some times we ask God for things we really don't need. Such as, I may ask him for my own plasma TV. Do you really think that I need another TV? In prayer we are humbly asking God for what we need. Usually it is better for us not to get what we want. But sometimes God does answer our prayes with yes when we ask. But you have to rember God is not going to change his will just because you ask.

He does answer all prayers. yet perhaps what you imagine you want today may not be best contained in the destiny. In my personal existence a very good party might want to be that, many years in the past, my fiance cheated on me with a chum of mine. We broke up and that i prayed for reconciliation. It did not take position. one three hundred and sixty 5 days later, I met the guy who's now my husband. he's a great human being with stunning morals and treats me ok. i'm happy God did not answer my prayers in accordance to what i idea i needed on the time!

It is called calling and election made sure. Specifically if a person is on their death bed and chooses to call one holding priesthood authority to pray over him/her and anoint them, if it is the will of God for them to come home the blessing to heal will not work. If it is not the will of God the person will heal/recover. Example: We choose to do things that will harm ourselves like smoking, God doesn't cause the decay/corruption of the body we do as a consequence to putting harmful substances into our tabernacle. This person gets a blessing from one holding authority, it is not the will of God for this person to die, most likely they will recover. If it is the will of God and they die we say Their Calling and Election was made sure, there is nothing more one can do. It was God's will and their time. A lot of people die before their time as a result of abuse and being abused. But the power of God is still on the earth and is held by the righteous. I hope you understand.
