Some tricks that have worked for both myself and clients of mine in the past include the following.
1) Drink lots of water throughout your day. Staying hydrated can cut down on hunger pains, especially if you have a glass before meals, then sip on a second glass while eating.
2) While eating, slow down. It'll take a while for your body to register that it's getting the energy it needs. If you wolf down your food, you'll wind up with hundreds of extra calories before your body will signal you to stop eating, since you're eating faster than your blood sugar can rise.
3) Don't avoid breads. Whole wheat breads and rolls are shunned by some... but I wouldn't recommend a diet without them. Breads will take up a lot of stomach space that could have easilly have been filled with higher-calorie sources, while providing carbohydrates that raise blood sugar (bread contains both simple and complex carbs) and turn off the impulse to continue eating.
4) Eat smaller, yet more frequent, meals. This keeps blood sugar more level throughout the day, and reduces the "feast or famine" that makes so many diets fail. It also provides less food matter for stomach acid to penetrate, meaning that you're going to more fully digest smaller meals.
and finally,
5) Don't ignore high-fiber foods such as carrots, apples, broccoli, cauliflower, cereals, and grains. Ever try to eat two apples in a row? Kind of tough, isn't it? But how many of us can gulp down two hamburgers in a single meal? That isn't so tough. By adding fiberous vegetables to a meal, you'll find that you don't need to eat as much to FEEL full.
Being well-fed will cut your appetite plenty. But overeating will accelerate weight-gain as well. Try the above suggestions for a month, and see if you don't agree that they do the trick.

Tea is an appetite suppresant, so you can try that. It's not gonna make you feel full if youre starving though. Also, this sounds weird, chew your water or tea when you drink it. It sends signals to your brain that youre eating and your brain sends messages that youre getting full. Works for me! (It usually delays me needing to eat about 30 min to an hour).

Take fiber pills in capsule form. Take them an hour before your meals and your appetite will be drastically reduced.

Cut down on your carbs and eat more protein and fat. Protein and fat are more satisfying, that's why people on strict low-carb diets naturally eat less calories than those on a high-carb/low-fat diet.
