My Husband has a civil judgement against him in NJ, and i am curious to how that will affect me. We own a house together, and have joint bank accounts. Can they come after our joint property?

Your joint property is certainly 'up for grabs' if: Your husbands judgement was established after the marriage AND the judgement does not specifically exclude your residence.

If you don't have an attorney, I strongly suggest you get one. An attorney is your best defence against a judgement and may be your only hope in retaining your home, your investments and your retirements.

Good luck and I hope this helps.

Unfortunately if the house is in both names then yes they can put a lien against the property...find out if the lien is against him or against the property...I would advise if they havent placed the lien against the property and just him then you want to refinance as quickly as possible and temporarily remove his name from the property so that you can keep your home in tact. I have helped couples through situations like these...Feel free to email me for other pointers or to help you get started. I am a mortgage banker and would be extremely happy to help.
