I get my all of my wisdom teeth plus 1 extra tooth removed next week. To be put under it will cost an extra $320. My hubby and I are kinda going thru a rough time financially so I really cannot afford to be put under. How much difference is there, pain wise, with the local anesthesia vs being put under?? Please be honest! I am a tough person. I've had cavities filled without any anesthesia at all, so my pain tolerance is pretty high, BUT I just wonder how bad it'll hurt.

I had to have some extractions and wasn't about to pay the extra $1000 that they wanted to put me under. They gave me a pill called Halcion to calm my nerves (unfortunately the gave me too small a dose, but if I would have had more I would have been much happier). I had my MP3 player turned way up so that I couldn't hear and just let them do what they had to do. You will be sore either way afterward and the next days. Good luck.

You will be fine with local, if you're not squeamish. I wanted to be put under because I didn't want to hear it. Oh, the sound of your teeth cracking inside your head....UGH! It was really creepy to me.

If you have a high tolerance for pain, just take the local and fill your prescription pain meds. You'll be fine!

i had all four of mine taken out a couple years ago. i don't have a high pain tolerance, but just had local and everything went fine. go to your mental happy place, close your eyes and let them do their job. then spend some of that $300 you saved eating soft foods for the next few days! ;) just be careful afterward. i thought that the pain i had was "normal" but it turned out that i got dry socket. if the vicodin doesn't cut the pain out, call your doctor.

I used local and it was fine. The problem is you hear it all and feel the dentist pushing against your mouth. Clearly going under is less painful, but local is just fine. Either way, you're going to hurt from the procedure.

just local. no matter which one you choose, ur really not going to feel much during the actuall process. most of the pain is going to be afterwards..later on or the next day. i wouldnt spend the extra 300

i would ask to be totally conked out. i wouldn't wanna be able to see what's going on. i would freak myself out waaay too much. i heard that sometimes the roots can be really deep and this one friend of mine had to get the doctor to stand on the chair and pull so hard and they both almost flew out of the chair. but if you're tight on money, see if insurance will cover it.
