If you agree with biting back, tell me why but only after reading this above. It is for a school project. Thanks for your help.

Again, it isn't an article, it is information for parents on biting. Read the article. If you can't read it, please don't answer.

No, don't agree with biting back. It reinforces the belief that if you hurt me, I'll hurt you. Not good. You need to observe what causes your child to bite instead--a certain situation? A certain child? Is she tired? and work around that. Getting down on their level, staring into their eyes, and saying "NO, we do not bite" will do the trick.

I say if your child bites after being told not to a few times - bite them not so hard you hurt them bad but just enough that they know it hurts- you don't have to rip a chunk out of the child to get them to understand. Most the time you can tell a child no biting and it stops but not always so you have to teach them why.
It's the same as teaching a child something is hot - they don't understand unless you show them what hot is by putting there hand on a vary warm not boiling hot washcloth.

my neice bites. she DOES understand that it's wrong and hurtful, so the article is full of it when it says kids don't know it's wrong. it's about impulse control. her parents have tried everything to get her to stop, but she's almost 4 and still doing it. i say, if you can have a child feel something very warm and say "ouch! don't touch! hot!" to get them to learn not to touch the stove, if all else fails, you could bite them back and say "ouch! biting hurts! see? DON'T BITE!"
