Good night!---haven't heard that term used in YEARS, and was born in 1958 (tail end of the Baby Boom, but still old enough to appreciate the 1960s changes and Woodstock)....

Most of the "hippies", "Woodstock Generation", and "back to the landers" I know are now middle-aged and fairly typical American folk. If I HAD to guess at religious preferencing, I'd say that most would label themselves as "social justice Christians", Unitarians, Pagans/Wiccans, atheists, or agnostics.

One kinda needs to define what is a "hippy" before being able to answer this question.

Is a hippie one who has long hair?

It it a person who does drugs?

Is it a person that wears beads and colored feathers?

Is it a person who is politically left of center?

Is it someone who does not use soap?

Are homeless people hippies?

Is it the music? The clothes? The incense? The protests and demonstrations? What is a hippie?

most call me a hippie. Because I believe in energy and vibes that I feel from others. I do not do drugs, but am not appalled by them either. I wear crystals and I believe in God, and I believe in healing energys, vision quests, meditation. I have been called a witch before because some just feel i have mystical abilities.
But I call myself Misty cause that is my name, and I do not conform to any religion, so I say I am a spiritualist open to the possibility of anything. Most hippies I know are the same. And they do not feel they have to catergorize what they are, instead they just be who they are. I wish you well

I would say Buddhism if any at all.

I go to festivals and could be considered part of the "hippie" culture.

Most do not follow a religion, but instead acknowledge the power of nature and the comos themselves...and do not attribute it's beauty to God. Most hippies I know are scientists.

Why not hippies in muslims ? I have seen muslim boys who supposedly pray 5 times a day when they are in the own home country and walk around with meek "i dint do anything" faces..change into jeans, headbands and Tshirts at the airport when they are leaving for some other country where they probably study and stay, same guys at reaching their destination airport smokes marlboro and winks at girls..probably they would be riding Harley's once they are in their univ.campus and smoking weeds !!

I don't think they have a specific religion. Is mainly a mix of Buddhism, and beliefs on Karma etc etc. They believe they are free spirits who are able to do whatever they like and go wherever they like ultimately striving for world peace and peace within the soul .....

However . . . i'm sure the large amounts of weed do help this ;-)

A bastardized version of Hinduism that emphasized the values inherent in free love seems to have been the most prevalent.

I think it's a sort of blend of religions. When I think of hippies, I think of them being interested in several Hindu ideas, but Buddhist as well.
