Why not have a big jar filled with slips of paper for different dishes your whole family agrees everyone enjoys and have a member of your family reach in pick one out each morning and that is what you will have that evening. No more deciding for you. It will be like playing the lottery and you can have fun doing it too. You can add favorite recipes over time to expand the drawing selection. You can also have a "wild card" slip of paper that, when drawn is for you to surprise everyone with something they are not used to ever having.

Been married 30 years, wife's cook twice. If you're bored grab a cook book, close your eyes and flip and open, what ever you turned to is what you make, no matter what it is. Let the family figure it out, I guarantee that after a few times they will request something and you won't have to even think. Second best thing, give the family one day before the weeks shopping to write down what they would like for dinner each day, lookie there you got a whole weeks worth of Idea's right at your finger tips.

Well, I'm neither wife nor mother. I am the lowly man of the house. In our house, its a joint effort. We dont plan meals or anything like that. We both work so when we get in, we decide on what we are in the mood for together. If there are conflicts, we usually make a variation of the two.
If we cant make a decision (not all that common actually), we usually head to Ryans or some restaurant with a buffet.

No you shouldn't always have to decide. My husband and I take turns deciding what we'll have for supper. Some nights he even cooks! lol Maybe you should give that a try, or something I do with my kids sometimes is write several dinner menus on paper and flip them upside down and let them pick one. If I have the time, I let them do the entire supper that way,, and they get so excited knowing that they pick what we were having. Good luck!

Yes, I always decide what we eat. My b/f works third shift and on his way home he will call and ask me what I want to do for dinner so he can take it out of the freezer or if he needs to pick something up. Last week I went off a bit and told him "I ALWAYS decide, you decide and you cook it for a change!" I love to cook, but when you have to decide and take care of it all week long, it gets kind of rough, especially when he HAS to have meat with his meal where as the kids and I could handle pasta and veggies once in a while.

No, you shouldn't alway have to decide. Here's a tip, (depending on how old your children are though), The week before your shopping trip, ask each member of the family for a meal idea. There have to be rules to follow, such as what the meal contains. ie: a meat , a vegetable, a starch, etc.... This makes it fun and a challenge for the whole family.

OK...color me weird. I am the man of the house and make the what's for dinner decision 6 days out of 7 and then cook it.
Frankly, I don't mind. I enjoy it. Not only that but my wife of 26 years and I will regularly have a cooking Sunday where we make big batches and freeze for future use. On the other hand, she is the head baker in the house.
Alright ladies....let the bidding begin ;-)!

It isn't in the rule book or anything, I just think thats the way most people think it should be. I mean you do the cooking, why not chose the meal!? But I understand where you are coming from, haveing to decide dinner every night can get old. I tried to leave it up to my husband one time, we had soup!! lol

Ill answer for my mom. Generally she does. I, as her daughter, am hardly home during the week as I work in a restaurant at a retirement community making food all day. I get maybe 2 good dinners out of it. My moms cooking is thee best hands down.
My mom dreams up stuff and makes it...and she likes cook...but she likes eating out every so often too so she doesnt have to cook.

This is a big decision? Here, I'll decide for you.
Monday-- Sockey salmon, brown rice, green beens, mushrooms,
apple pie
Tuesday-- baked chicken, tossed salad, broccoli, whole wheat bread, mango
Wednesday--cauliflower curry, brown rice, boiled onions
asparagus, fruit salad
Thursday-baked pork chops, applesauce, tossed salad,
baby red potatoes, green beans, pumpkin pie
Friday-- Orange roughy, steamed spinach, yellow squash,
brown rice, chocolate pudding
Saturday--spaghetti, tossed salad, peas and carrots, French
bread, red wine, kiwi fruit
Sunday--vegetable soup, turkey sandwiches, potato salad
sliced peaches
Now, make your shopping list and send one of those kids to
the store.
They're going to love you this week!
P.S. I used to be a purist and make my own pie crusts, but
truthfully, the pre-made Pillsbury ones are just as good
and save so much time.
