Attorney, YES! Also consider recording where funds came from and what dates. Record yours and her where-abouts during such dates of losses. Check out establishments and ATM addresses she frequented for witnesses and surveillance camera footage, AS SOON as possible! Before memories and videos are lost!! Then possible judgments against her and ANYONE who knowingly assisted or profited from such theft, grand larceny, may get a judgment filed against them. Showing your non-participation and to help prevent prosecution or jail time against you. Waste no time, good luck.

I would absolutely get an attorney! $34,000.00 is a lot of money. Why did you give her that much money without making sure it would go where it was intended? I can understand if you want to help a friend but it would have been better to pay her debts by writing the checks yourself.

I would get an attorney. Is the house still in your name? Can you prove she took the money? Can you prove you did not know what she was doing with the money? If you have provable answers to these questions, I would talk to an attorney to see if you have a case. Best of luck.

refinanced house! But then you say "I moved out".. who owned the house?? Do you mean she refinanced her house and gambled the money away instead of paying debts you both incurred. One other thing...In the first sentence you say "how do I make THEM pay up.. who is them??

All this info is needed to figure out your situation, if possible.

Get an attorney and ask for their advise. The way I see it, if you didn't have anything in writing stating she owes you this money, you are the sole person responsible for the debt.

settle it out before it takes over your life. the money was spent in your name and even though it was you friend a judge will not care. don't spend any money on a lawyer that will look out for their interest.

settlement comapnies can help you to lower your debts by negotiating the amount with the credit card company directly. settlement companies have thousands of clients in debt and they can work in bulk to get a lesser balance on the accounts.

lower monthly payments pay back half your debt it sounds great to me. check out http://www.fdnsolutions.com or http://www.1800debtsettlement.com
