I certainly don't. What's wrong with people.?? These stories about animal cruelty disgust me beyond words. The punishment these ppl receive does NOT fit the crime. The man that put his wife's lil' puppy in an oven causing permanet damage to its' lil paws got 6 months ....that's it. this after attacking the dog with a leaf blower and causing the dog's eye to be removed .....I just can't stand it, we need to really make the punishments for these sick mean cruel crimes a lot stronger

In my state, Oregon, the penalties fit the crime..One person I know was fined $2500 plus 22 days in jail for shooting a dog with a pellet gun, even though no serous damage was done... Killing a dog demands $5000 and 5 years..

Absolutely not...here in the UK the fines/punishments are laughable, so much so that it makes a mockery of what the police and the RSPCA* have had to do to catch these people. In the past couple of weeks in the area that I live in, there have been three cases of extreme, sickening and sadistic, animal cruelty highlighted in the local paper...I will not say what, as some idiots using this site could well go out and copy what has been done. Suffice to say that the punishments certainly do not fit the crime and if it were up to me, I would have the same thing done to those involved as by committing those crimes, they have given up all rights to be treated as a human being...

BTW...with all due respect, how many of you who have answered this question and said the punishment is not enough are vegetarian? Cruelty to livestock should not be ignored either...and that includes poultry.

NO! I had my puter a few mos. when I discovered Dogster.com. It is really cool and I have my 2 dogs on there now with their own little web pages. Somehow, I started receiving info from the Humane Society. A lot of people on Dogster have adopted pets that were left homeless after Katrina. But the liturature I get from HS is pitiful. It breaks my heart. I am not rich by any means, get paid once a mo., but had been sending $5.00 a mo. to disabled vets. Now I send it to the HS. Personally, I think anyone that maims or in any way harms an innocent animal should receive the same treatment. Tit for tat!

Eh, I feel the same way you do. Since I love animals and respect them, I can't stand animal cruelty at all. It makes me extreamely mad when people do things like that, and then they make up an excuse that the animal "attacked" them first. To me, I think that if a person didn't abuse the animal in the first place, the animal wouldn't feel threatened, and therefore it wouldn't attack. I feel as if a law need to be passed about waht happen to a person and how they should be punished just because of what they do to an animal. Animals aren't stupid emotionaless creature. I remembered once, when I was at this place in Vietnam, and they was about to kill this dog, and the dog whimper a little, and I could see in it's eyes that it know that it was about to die. I felt really horrible, and couldn't stand to look. But, people should respect animals like they wanted to be respected. Pitbulls for examples, people abuse them alot because they think they were "born" to kill. In my opinion the only reason they bite is because of their owner, and they adapt to their surroundings. I had a pittbull, and she was the sweetest thing. She didn't bite anyone head off.

NO. Of course the punishments are not severe enough. Cruelty to animals demands long prison terms. If he gets just a slap on the wrist, the guilty person might commit a similar crime against a human next time.

I totally agree. I live in Canada. And right now there's a huge thing in the news. These two kids 17 and 19 years old beat and drug a dog behind their truck and they are expected to only get either a $2000 fine or only 6 months in jail. It's not fair! These people that hurt animals think their not doing anything wrong. It's Sick! If you do research on most serial killers or murders. Most of them started off by killing animals. It's funny why our laws wouldn't protect us from people like that. After someone has murdered someone that's when the police say Oh I wish we would of seen the signs. Duh the signs are right there and the law isn't doing anything about it. I'm with all of you. We need to do something about these sick people! Maybe beat them and drag them behind their trucks! See how they like it!

The individual crimes are bad enough, but the real culprits are the puppy mills.

Puppy mills are beyond the reach of the law, because the puppies are only considered "goods" and businesses always have a certain percentage of waste of "goods". We need to change these laws to change the lives of thousands of puppies a year.

Also, we need to boycott any stores that get their "stock" from puppy mills. There is a lot of info on the net if you want to get involved.

The penalties in PA are not severe enough. In fact, it is extremely difficult to even get the local SPCA involved.

In my case, there was a vacant house that burned across the street. The feral cats, in my neighborhood were using it as shelter. One day (about six months after the fire) the owner of the building came and begn boarding up all entrances. I told him there were cats in the building, but he refused to go in and clear the house. It took four days of persistent calling to the SPCA...I had to supply them with the name, address and phone number of the building owner...to come out and go into the building. Not only were there several cats in there, but there was a nest containing three two week old kittens. Those poor cats would have died a horrible death and the SPCA seemed indifferent.

BTW, I hand raised those kittens and they turned out to be wonderful babies. I got them placed in good homes with people I knew.

I have to agree w/ you. The penalties for animal cruelty don't even come close to justice. It's so arcane to ignore the fact that these animals actually have feelings. Do they emote? YES! Do they have a sense of fear? YES! Does it infuriate me? Once again, a resounding YES! The only thing that I can think of is for people to actually get out and campaign for reform of these laws. They are far too often unenforced, and even when they are, the penalties are so minimal that it really becomes a joke.

I'm with you 100% and think if the punishment for cruelty to animals were stiffer, the poor animals may have better chances in life. All are God's creatures and deserve better treatment from abusers.I firmly believe in God's words ,it should be an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth, whatever crime you do to your victims ,the same should be done to you.
