My cat is an indoor/outdoor cat. Recently he started favoring his right paw. We looked at it and it looks like it has a thorn in it. I noticed he will run on it, but not walk on it. When he's inside he looks like he's trying to work it out. Should I take him to the vet or just let him work it out himself? I don't want him to be in pain, but he doesn't like the vet. He's still eating just fine and acting fine.

Forget the vet...You can get it out yourself. Just get a pair of tweezers and pull it out. Then put some triple anti. cream on it. It should be fine.

Since this is an ongoing problem that has not been resolved, go ahead and take your cat to the vet. Hopefully, if it's time for shots or vacc's -- you can get an appointment for that and then throw in 'hey will you look at my cat's foot?' you never know. Sometimes a vet will simply pull out the thorn at that point and not charge you an arm and a leg for it. But, IF you go in JUST to have the paw looked at? You can bet you are going to have a nice little bill on your hand. I feel like I'm telling you how to 'work' a vet over just a little bit here -- but IF your vet charges an office visit fee - - say like 45.00 for simply walking through the door - try to make the most of your visit (i.e. getting needed meds/shots/vaccs/tests/ done at the same time...hope that makes sense.

Whenever my pet has a problem, I try to resolve it myself before having to take him to the vet, if I were you I would see what I can do first then, if all fails take him to the vet

I would try to remove it first if you cant take him to the vet.

Have another person hold them wrapped in a towel (so they dont get torn to shreds)...with that paw out.

In good light carefully spead his paw open and use tweezers to take it out. Also you should cean the area with alcohol swab etc.

Take him to the vet and have him get it out, you don't want to wait until it gets infected.
