I am graduating from grad school and I would like to get or create something special for my parents who have supported me entirely (financially, emotionally, & otherwise) through my MBA and undergrad. We are a very close family and so I am just trying to think of the "perfect" gift!! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Give them a framed copy of your MBA diploma with a small plaque on it with a special message from you. "To my wonderful parents, for whom help me experience so many wonderful things in my life. Thank you for your love, support, money, and always being there for me. I will take your lessons with me forever."

You get the idea. You know what wording will move your parents better than we do. This will be something they can hang up for all to see.

Gift certificates are so impersonal.

There is a gift in every situation...What are you learning right now? You know it is unappealing to you to put down anyone who is caring enough to give no matter what the amount. This has to make you feel good about who you are.....You are learning patience cause you don't know why they haven't given you anything but they might have something good in store for you...then on the other hand you are wondering who the hell these people are that wouldn't give you anything especially after putting down others who treated you better than they did....So take some deep breathes & relax & be thankful that you have so many people who care about you & $1000 you didn't have before. You feel controlled & disrespected by them...Why are they leaving you in suspense or pranking you by seeing if you will say anything or are they really ignorant to how you feel right now? Well, lots of weird things happen in life. Get busy with something else.

Congrats on the MBA and Good Luck. If you are close to your parents like I am, more than likely they wouldn't want you to spend your money on them. Maybe you can collet a buch of pictures of you and your family at all ages and stages of life and put together some kind of photo album/scrapbook. Maybe incluse special memories and "thanks yous" through out. Since you are graduating and I am guessing moving on with your life, this could be a way that they can keep you as their "little girl" forever.

Oh, what a grateful child, you're parents are very lucky. As a parent I have kept every single card my kids have given me over the years. If your parents don't collect anything what about writing them a letter with specific info about how much you appreciate them. If you don't think thats enough you could put a gift certificate in there to their favorite restaurant. But I think you're words on paper would mean so much more.

A weekend away to a not so far away, but fun, location that they could drive to and spend a weekend away from the house.

Depending on how much you want to spend you could pay for a hotel and get some gift cards to some restaurants, starbucks, or other attractions in the area that they're going.

awww. thats sweet. Congrats on your MBA!! As for gifts, what about a gift certificate for a day at the spa for them. Massage, facials, relaxation.
