I had heard a while ago about a possibility of New York city becoming its own state. As a native New Yorker I find this possibility tantalizing. New York city is closed off from the rest of its state and most people at least the ones i know are disconnected from the upstate anyway. What do you think??

I think it is a good idea. The State of NY would be better off without it. Don't get me wrong, I love NYC, but it is a headache for the state, and, I am certain the city would be better off also.

no that is just utterly ridiculous, even long island wanted to be on its own ,not very practical idea, but in some cases lile northern aand southern calif are totally different it would be a good idea there and in upper or north michigan where the lake divides the state it could wwork out there as well and the keys want to break away from florida which is just plain silly

I think it's a dumb idea........almost like Texas becoming another country. You are what you are and deal w/it.

Besides, no one really knows upstate exists anyway.
