This sounds like a phenomenon called sleep paralysis. When you are in deep sleep, especially REM sleep when you are dreaming, your body goes into a partial paralytic state. Most of your voluntary motions are paralyzed to keep you from acting out your dreams. Occasionally, some people wake up mentally before their body gets the signal to wake up. You become mentally aware and awake again, but your body is lagging behind in that partial paralysis. It typically lasts for only a few minutes at most. Most people report that it is a terrifying experience; they have no idea what is going on and can't move. This can result in tremendous anxiety about trying to fall asleep, and often creates panic attacks.
Apparently, this condition is not harmful to you in anyway, except for the emotional trauma. The next time it happens, stay calm. Think to yourself that you are just in a different physiological state, one that few people ever encounter. It will pass after a few minutes, and you should feel normal again. Try to relax and let it run its course. By understanding what is happening, you can be assure that you have no reason to panic. Its just one of those little things you'll learn to cope with.
You can talk to a doctor if you want, but they probably won't do much if anything about it. They will probably just give you a prescription for anxiety. I encourage you to do some more research and look at online communities of other people with sleeping disorders for people who share your problem. They will help you find ways to minimize the impact.
As for the connection of this with your uncle's death, I'm at a loss. There may be some spiritual explanation for that as well.

Don't be afraid!
Sometimes your brain partly switches on, you know you are in bed, yet some or most of your faculties are not connected.
You may find yourself not being able to move, or not hearing anything, or not controlling your breathing and voice.
All these are parts part of being asleep - if some but not all happen at the same time, one is literally partly asleep.
In normal sleep almost everything is shut down simultaneously, but you may occasionally get out of synch. Just wait, and you'll either fully fall asleep or fully wake.
If you are also dreaming, and you want to wake up, there's a simple trick that often works: do something mildly shocking!
For example, if you leap off the lower 3-4 steps of a stairway, or slap yourself in the face (in your dream!!!), you'll likely cause yourself either a jolt of adrenaline or some other emotional-response hormone, or induce some strong, automatic muscular twitching as e.g. your legs ready for impact at the end of the (imagined) jump.
BTW, this is how alarm clocks work!
A loud sound causes either or both thise effects (twitching + hormone release), and the central nervous system gets into action.
Only if your problem is very frequent and you can't wake up when e.g. you hear the alarm clock, or can't get out of protracted dreaming, see a doctor.
There's not much to be afraid of until you are told you're really ill - which is very unlikely.
Fears are the worst problem by themselves. I know a lady who at one point feared her eyes would pop out of their sockets in her sleep - something thoroughly impossible!
In such cases, you try to heal the fear - not the imagined symptoms.

I have gone through something similar before myself. You are experiencing panic attacks by the sound of things. Try doing something relaxing before bed. Have a nice warm bath with lavender oil. Lavender helps sleep. You could also put a drop or two of it on your pillow. It is not advisable to study or use a computer late at night, as this will keep your mind too active. Do some relaxing breathing exercises and listen to some gentle music you might like. Tell yourself that your exams will go fine as you have worked for them. If you don't sleep you won't be able to do them as well as you can. sometimes warm milk or hot chocolate can help you sleep. Good luck in your exams and another thing is only use your bed for sleeping on. Don't sit on it during the day etc. You have to take control of this and put these points into action to help you sleep. stay calm. Best of luck.

I agree with the 1st response.....people used to call it a "hag riding you"...like the devil. My family has a history of it. Pray to Jesus before you go to bed and also during the entire event (in your mind). For some reason, maybe it is your uncle's spirit is trying to enter your body, or the devil's spirit. Fight mentally as hard as you can. As suggested, you SHOULD talk with your spiritual leaders also.
I've had experience with demonic spirits, so I recognize some of this. I also have some kind of sleep paralysis. But it doesn't fight me or weigh me down, like someone pressing on me. My docs told me I didn't have sleep apnea, so I don't know what it is medically. My brother wakes himself up by suddenly kicking his foot off the bed. It takes a lot of energy, but try to stay as calm as you can, because panicking makes it worse.

It could be a spiritual battle like some people says. Go to a doctor they can do some research and see what's going on. But also some people think that the reason why you want to wake up and can't is because your soul has temporarily left your body and hadn't return yet.

Honestly I think that you are going through a spiritual battle and (like your mom said) you need to pray but also take it a step further and have her pray also and even involve a pastor or deacon from your church if you feel it's necessary.

It sounds like you are suffering from panic attacks. Or possible sleep apnia. You need to see a doctor who can check. They may refer you to a psycologist. But please go soon!
