I'm not really sure of what average is but don't let others shoot you down. Keep teaching and working with her and all these things will come easy to her when she gets to school. As for the intelligence part, I have a very high I.Q. the whole gifted and talented thing and didn't even talk until after 2. 16 months is early to determine that, but keep up the good work anyway.

my son knew all his body parts, most animal sounds, & a few of his colors by the time he was 18 months. He's been singing since he was about 6 months old.
My son will be 3 in 3 weeks. He now speaks thousands of words and speaks in 8 or 9 word sentences. When he was little he was so delayed, I'm so proud of him!
Your daughter sounds pretty normal.

I would say she is a product of good loving parents :) My son was that way also, he was walking at just under 10 months and talking at 10 months (using sign language at 9 months) and now he is a very well spoken, bright 3 1/2 year old. I think most babies are capable of doing these things if you work on them and spend a lot of time with them. The sad thing is that most parents are just too lazy to do it :(
Congratulations on your no-doubt beautiful little girl and keep up the great work!!

it's okay to think that you're baby is above average almost all parents think like that and because of the way you've been nurturing your baby is so sharp, i have a daughter a 20 month old and she did exactly the same all her body parts animal sounds recognition of animals and their babies but that's because i used to teach her play with her etc etc.
for every parent their kids are special and above average and you're such wonderful person who shares so much of your precious time with your precious baby.you'll see the results after some years when your daughter turns out to be a gem and then you would be surprised how she's like that but an unanimous answer will be YOU.

Maybe average with some of the other "above average kids" and well above some less average kids. (If that makes since) My daughter was a late walker, but an early talker. She is 18mos old and talks all the time. She can pick up a melody in a song, but not exactly the words. I thought this was pretty good for her age. Alot of it is daycare and how much they work with them.

It depends on the parents. If you are working with your daughter on a consistent basis to teach her these things, then she will learn and repeat them back to you at an early age. My son was the same way. Now, at the age of 2 he speaks in baby sentences, sometimes of 3-4 words. He knows most of his body parts in Spanish, and can follow commands to touch those parts when given in Spanish. And he has picked up some American Sign Language from baby einstein videos.
Having been a teacher, I like to use teachable moments to get my son to learn and explore his world. When we go outside, we talk about the leaves changing colors and what the colors are now compared to what he saw during the summer. Even though that is probably way over his head right now, when he is able to understand cognitively what I am saying and understand why it makes sense, then I can chalk it up as a lesson learned through exploration and move on.
He learned letter identification from watching Wheel of Fortune with me at night. And he learned to count to 20 by climbing up the steps to our apartment at the end of each day. Children's brains are sponges at this age. It is amazing just how much they absorb in such little time.
Your little one sounds right on track.. Just keep up the good work.

Hey, I have a 14 month old girl and she knows where is her nose, her hair, her foot, and her hands. She sings too! I think that babies are like little sponges that learn whatever you teach them, it depends of the time you give to them and how repetitive you are with them to make her learn new things. If she has the ability to learn fast, she might be smarter than many other kids and you shall take advantage of that. GOOD LUCK!!

All of our kids (4) knew things like this at that age. I think thats normal for that age. If you are teaching. If not then your child will not know these things. But keep teaching and singing and all those things with her and she will be a breeze in school and learn things much easier then other kids. The sooner you help her the sooner she will catch on in school!!!!! GOODLUCK :)

At 16 months old the adveradge baby should be able to point to at least 6 body parts as well as point out at least 4 colors when asked red, the should point or pick up red (example). This is very normal.

She sounds like a toddler who is lucky enough to have parents who pay attention to her and work with her on teaching her stuff. I don't think that's really above average for a child her age to know her body parts.
