I just convinced my dad to buy me a $5000 yorkie. Price was steep, my dad thinks I'm nuts! Would anybody else pay that on a puppy that they fell in love with?

You guys are all right about adopting, and I have (i'm not a bad person), but I just really wanted a little little puppy. I went to this store with the idea of MAYBE spending 500, but fell in love with this puppy. When I asked how much it was, then they broke the news to me. I couldn't let him go though.

Wow... There are a bunch of really mean answers. I'm 22, not that spoiled, and my dog was not a rip off. I love this little guy. I have 4 dogs total (my golden retriever just passed away, and I was ready for a puppy), and they range from free to 5000. It was not about price, it was about how he fell in love with me too. I held him for over an hour. Its like we picked eachother, and there was no dollar amount coming between us.

This is not a regular store like your corner "Puppy Palace". She does background checks for 3 generations for each puppy she brings in. Also, puppys' gentic and hereditary health is garaunteed...not that I would ever take him back.

Okay, sorry that I even brought the question up...BUT! I was not scammed. This store owner did a check on my family and me. She does not even sell to homes with children 15 and under. She cares for every puppy. If you would like to see, go to TeacupsPuppies.com. Its all there. My puppy IS NOT from a mill. He's actually from a private breeder in Coral Gables, FL. I researched this. So all you haters that cannot AFFORD a $5000 dog, say as you will, but DO NOT criticize me for buying a dog I will love for the rest of its life, spend more money on than your husbands and wives will ever spend on you, and giving this dog the best life it could ever dream of. He is worth every dime. Thanks.

Love, Monica & Teddy

That is a ridiculous amount to pay for a dog! That's a down payment on a car right there. Yorkies with pedigrees usually lie in the range of $500-$1000 at the most. You should consider another breeder or store. I personally would only pay $250 at the most. But I would more likely adopt a puppy that needs a good home. If I paid that much and that dog died, I would be trying to breath life back into that pup. All that money, the dog needs to be able to cook and clean!

I know how you feel. I spent $1800 on my Yorkie because I just fell in love with HIM. I adopted my other dog from a shelter. I can tell you one thing though, make SURE you know what breeder this puppy is coming from. ASK. If she's coming from a breeder in say, Missouri? Chances are, she's from a puppy mill. And thats BAD. Read up on breeders and puppy mills before you get her!!! Also, I know everyone loves these ultra tiny dogs but more times than most they have TONS of health problems. They usually just aren't that healthy. Not ALL the time, but a lot of the time. Also, make sure there is some type of warranty. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it's a huge investment and something you're going to have to take care of for at least the next 10 years! It's going to hurt SO much more buying this little puppy and bonding with her and having her get really sick, then to just pass on this particular puppy if you know that there are serious risks and problems. READ UP and do some research. You'll thank yourself for it later.

Once a long time ago I bought a poodle - only 75 $, but that was a one off thing. All of my dogs since then have come free. I think they're more grateful at being saved and not turned out in the street somewhere or strung up to hang. However, if your dad is thinking about adopting more children, I'm a sure candidate.

I hope your pup remains healthy & you are happy in your choice but...pups at pet stores come from puppy mills, no matter what the store's owner tells you. As to the owner saying she checks back 3 generations: All registered dogs come with a pedigree (listing of parents, grandparents, etc.) - it means nothing if none of them are Champions - especially the more recent generations. A good breeder will only deal with a potential owner directly & would NEVER sell one of their carefully bred pups through a pet store or other party! They will interview you to make sure you are a good candidate for the breed & one of their pups in particular. Pet stores sell to whoever has the money. Pets stores buy poorly bred, poor looking specimens cheaply & sell them at high prices for the greatest profit margin they can - they do not care about their welfare or future health problems you will have to deal with, just that they got paid. Please do not take this being pointed out to you as being mean, but learn from it.

You should always buy from a breeder that is active in the breed's club and that tests & certifies their breeding dogs free from genetic defects known to the breed (subluxated patellas being one in Yorkshire Terriers, for example). This gives you the best chance to have a healthy, well-adjusted pet for it's life, plus you will always have the support of the good breeder to answer any questions as they arise.

$5,000? Wow, they saw you coming. Why do you think they gave you the price AFTER you fell in love with it? I'm not against paying a little bit of money for a quality dog. I paid $2000 for a show-quality Rottweiler, but would never go any higher than that. No nice way to say it, you got SCAMMED.

I just had someone give me a Jack Russell, in this area, he usually sells them for $300. But I would never spend that on a dog. Too many homeless animals in need of a good home.

You're correct ,the price you paid is out of this world and would never pay that much for a dog.You have been taken,no matter how cute the pup is,as they saw you comming.Did you feel something hit you in the back?If you would have had to work for $5,000.00 I bet you sure woulldn't have been so eager to pay that amount.Would never in a million years pay that for any dog,and I'm a breeder.

No, no, no, no hell no. The amount of puppies that need a home is outrageous and they are put down in alarming numbers.
I have had many dogs and not a one did I pay for, (oh, I did give this kid a dollar to hold one pup for me). Some of the best dogs are at the pound right now and go and look there for one.

Whoa,,,, you went to a store!!!!!!!!!!! NEVER EVER buy a puppy from a "store" ! ! ! ! Not even for 5c ! ! ! !

Now I have paid considerably more than $5,000 for a dog before, but with a reason for buying that particular dog. I have even paid $3,000 for a puppy before, but BOTH of her parents were former National Field Champions.
$5.000 for a puppy mill puppy bought from a pet store is absolutely out of the question, you are being H A D.
