Leadership = stratification. Yes, I actually learned something from sociology class. So this thought has been popping up in my head for the past day or two and I just want to see what people think of it. I got into an arguement with a co-worker a few weeks ago about relationships and men being the leader. Well, she claimed her husband was completely equal to her, but at the same time claimed he was the leader. From a sociological perspective this is impossible. So, a few questions popped up. Did God create a sexist system? Why? Is God sexist?

My view is that in the beginning God realized the mistake he made, that is why woman was created. Well - man was and should still be Fearing GOD - the act of sucession - then woman should fear man. But somewhere thru the Centuries, and especially the "Flower Child" revolution - Woman's Rights, etc things have changed dramatically. The woman co-worker, in her mind, thinks she is wright, and she is, in part - Her and Her Husband are equal (in their relationship), but Not equal (in her mind) in the "pecking" order. She could be abused at home, she could have very little self-esteme, or she Wants her husband to be the Dominant One, therefore being responsible for All. The good or the bad. She could be nothing more then a coward. Do you understand what I am trying to convey? One thing I never did during my working years, my mother was always wright - "never talk Politics or Religion" and especailly at Work. Also, keep your home life Private, and Leave the Job at the job - don't take it home. Whenever I strayed from her advice it was disastrous, so I learned young. God did not create a "Sexist" world, if he did, answer this simple question - why is the "Gay World", the fastest growing sector of our continent? If he were a "sexist", why did he create women, why did he tell you "not to cast your "seeds" foolishly, why did he say "suffer the little CHILDREN, to come unto me, for I AM THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN!. Go figure - you will never know why your co-worker feels the way she does, until you live in Her House. Good Question, send another.

Who knows what God is or isn't. If there is a God I don't think he's a sexist. At least he would try not to be.
On the other hand, people have through centuries tried to tell what god is or isn't, who he favours and who he doesn't. People have created sexist systems as well as a racist systems and class systems because some people would always benefit from such systems. Most systems still exist because they aren't questioned enough. And many people wont raise certain questions because they are imposed that God was the "guy" behind yesterday's, today's and tomorrow's structure and system. Without really asking God what he's actually thinking about us people treating each other unequally over and over again.

sociology is like philosophy and psychology, just open minded theories. There's not going to be one pat answer, so when someone wants to argue with you, just let the argument pass and figure that that person has their own opinion, can have their opinion and that it's ok to have a different opinion, and that there is no need for you to rebut theirs or them to rebut yours.

My opinion would be that God made Man and determined that he could not live alone and He made Woman to join him in partnership, that each works better with another half of the equation. And that in every partnership we need all those strengths and emotions (male and female). So God is not sexist.

Maybe that person meant that the man is the leader because in her relationship (as she knows it) that her man (or her father or whichever male counterpart there is or was in her life) had or did the leadership (qualities) and led.

Well, men had control over what was put in the Bible and what was left out, so of course it favors men.

Calm down guys - it would be just as sexist if women had control over what was put in the Bible and what was left out.

Whether God is sexist or not I don't know, but when you've only got a male deity to pray to, I don't think you can expect him not to favor "his" sons.

God did create a system whereby he states that we are all equal and yet have different roles within the community of believers. If that goes counter to your "sociological perspective", oh, well. The Bible teaches that Jesus is God and is equal to God in all authority and yet submitted his will to the Father--his role was different.

My husband and I are partners, but if we come to a disagreement, the responsibility for the decision rests on his shoulders. That is the role God laid out for him. He's commanded to love me. I'm commanded to respect him and follow his lead. In any organization there has to be one person on whom the final authority and responsibility rests. If you think that makes God sexist, then feel free to take it up with him.

God did not write the bible, and folk in bible cases were easily sexist. So the bible reflects the beliefs of that aspect a number of that were sexist. i do not trust contained in the bible, yet regardless of if i did i might want to no longer examine it actually. The morals are strong basically no longer the memories.

That argument assumes that authority automatically means superiority and entitlement.

In the true sense, however, authority is service.

One leads for the good of another and for the common good.

The perversion of that is *authoritarianism* in which one leads simply to assert his own will and superiority over another.

Since true authority as so often been perverted into authoritarianism, that has brought true authority into disrepute, in this day and age, as many people think that all authority is nothing but authoritarianism.

At the last supper, Jesus told the apostles that they were to be leaders of the Church, but they were to exercise their authority as a form of loving service, as He gave the example by washing their feet. (John 13:14-15).

God is not sexist. The Bible says He created Eve (not Steve) so that man should not be alone. The New Testament says that husbands should honor their wives and wives their husbands. Sound pretty equal to me.

Christ is the head of the man, says the bible, so then God is sexist against men? God thinks men are stupid without him?

No.
