There are good and bad sides to pride. I am proud of my grandson when he learns how to spell a new word (he's 3 - and he's already reading!)
But the bad side of pride is when people are so caught up in themselves that they are mean to others, think that they are the end all and be all, and think they can never make a mistake. When they put themselves higher than others. This type of pride is caused by childish selfishness.

We all get pushed around, put down, made fun of, and
criticized in life. That leads to bad feelings about ourselves.
Pride is the struggle to maintain our self-respect. Which gets
assaulted at least once a day, by someone else having a "bad"
day.
Pride is good. False pride. When one thinks they are "better"
because of who they are. Isn't so good!

Finally an intelligent question!.
Pride is ego. Ego is our perception of ourselves. Ego's biggest fear is death. So any loss or defeat is the reminder of death to the Ego.
To let go ego is to let go of the fear of death.
So accept that we as humans are not perfect and are mortals. When you truly understand this, the pride will become humility which is much more powerful and result oriented.

I don't actually think people seek pride so much as accomplishment, accolades, appoval, praise. It's how our parents train us to do right. I think we can be excused if were proud of our chidlren, even if were proud of our own accomplishments, as long as it doesn't blind us to our faults. A pride that blinds us to failings and shortcomings and causes us to think more highly of ourselves than we should, is, I think, more correctly labeled conceit.
