Yes, of corz its possible to everyone to move to Istanbul. And you would not loose your US citizenship but you would loose your nicknames "texaslady78" and "bescakargirl"!!!

"istanbullady" or "nisantasigirl" would be other choices for you!!!

Good luck...

It's easy to move to Istanbul. The 3 month tourist visa that you buy on entry can be renewed by a visit to another country, or within Turkey if you can prove that you are financially self sufficient. This prohibits work.

If you want to work in Turkey as a foreigner, you need to have a contract of employment BEFORE you travel, you then apply for the work visa from your place of origin (through the Turkish consulate) they will (eventually) issue you with a work permit and resident's permit, thus negating the need to buy a tourist visa.

If you want to work as a teacher of English (as a foreign language) the minimum legal requirements are a university degree and a TEFL certificate. The previous poster wrote "you can earn much as an English teacher", this is relative. By Turkish standards teachers are paid well, by international standards salaries are dropping. I heard this week of an experienced teacher accepting work at 8 ytl an hour (approx. $5.5)

If you decide to apply for Turkish citizenship there are various hoops to jump through (health check, police check, Turkish language test) but nothing too onerous. I believe that US citizens (unlike others) can't possess dual nationality so you may have to give up your US citizenship.

There won't be any problem... You can live as much as you like in Turkey without losing your US citizenship unless you commit a crime which results an enforcement of leaving country. By the way as far as I know you can not practice some of jobs without getting Turkish citizenship such as medical doctor or public servant. But you can practice most of jobs, you can work for companies or you can be a teacher like many US citizens in Ä°stanbul. For example you can earn much as a native speaker English teacher... Good luck... :)

i can't see any reason, why it should not be possible to move to Turkey. You would not loose your us citizenship, cause you won't become turkish just by moving there. The best thing to do: get on the net and contact the US embassy in Turkey. They can provide you with all answers.
A nice thing about Istanbul is the weather. In the summertime it is hot.
Please be aware that Turkey is an islamic country. I myself live in an islamic country. My advice for you: inform yourself as much as possible about country, folks and rules. Learn the language!
Good luck
