What? What's all this YELLING nonsense? Yes, I know it is interpreted as an increase in volume, but no one is actually yelling. Ah yes, all that imaginary shouting that's going on these days in chat rooms across America. It taxes, vexes and drains me so. What rubbish. It's plainly annoying to look at, that's what's wrong with it. I don't feel like I'm being pummelled by someone else's capitals though. It's over-sensitivity, my friend, but majority wins so do what they tell you. Don't feel bad. I've been scorned for the same reason.

Corporate would wonder if you even know how, it could hurt you getting and retaining a job

Because in the early days of online communication someone decided that typing in all caps was yelling, so everyone else just jumped on that bandwagon (like someone else said earlier).

In 1996, when I first started using chat rooms, I typed everything in caps. Why? It was just my way of doing things, kind of my own persona, my image. Well, I got (ironically) yelled at for it, and I stopped doing it. I probably should have just stuck to my guns, but oh well. I guess it's polite to occasionally do things to appease the fussy and knitpicky.

Typing in capital letters is the written equivalent of shouting - it should be used sparingly, to indicate emphasis.
It is rude because it shows a lack of interest in communicating effectively and clearly, and thereby a lack of interest in or respect for your audience.

Two reasons-you offend someone because you are EMPHASIZING EVERYTHING and they think the words bigger when you type them bigger and the sound of their own thoughts bug them.

OR

You offend them by illustrating an INABILITY to properly use the upper and lower case options on your keyboard and they feel like communicating with someone who doesn't have the basic ability to use a shift key is beneath them.
