I dye my hair at home. Is it better to dye it right after I wash and dry it or should I wait a while before dying it? I have heard that it does better if you hair is "a little dirty".

My stylist tells me to wait at least one day after washing to dye. Something about the oils on the scalp & hair follicles needing to replenish so as not to overly damage the hair during the dying process.

Dye your hair while it is dry, because the dye holds better, then wait 30 minutes then wash it out.

I'd wait to dye it till the next day. I've always been told to wait one day after washing my hair (a little dirty).

I do wash my hair first, but don't use conditioner, the dye wont stick as good. You usually (depending on the dye you use) are not suppose to wash your hair until 24hrs. after you dye it. That's why I wash mine first, read the directions on your particular dye. I've done ok with mine! I do let it dry first.

It doesn't really help the dye process to have your hair 'less clean.' It is about your scalp. The oils on your scalp help protect you from the harsh chemistries involved.
