Contact lenses do not damage your vision. But they could damage your eyes. If not properly fitted and cared for. If left in place for a long time; sometimes, they cause corneal irritation and tears. They can also cause infection. Follow the optometrist's instructions in eye wear and lens care, Take them off intermittently to allow your eyes to rest. You shouldn't have any problems in their use. There are a lot of innovations now like the disposable ones, which eliminate the maintenance and assure cleanliness.

Get started off right with your contact lenses by going to a doctor who provides full-service care. Full-service care may include the following items: a thorough eye examination, an evaluation of your suitability for contact lens wear, the lenses, necessary lens care kits, individual instructions for wear and care, and follow-up visits over a specified time. The initial visit and examination can take an hour or longer. Here is a list of other specific do's and don'ts to lead you to successful wear.

Do:

Listen and watch closely as instructions are given and demonstrated. Practice the care routine in your optometrist's office.
Follow lens care and wearing instructions/schedules to the letter.
Schedule follow-up visits to your optometrist both during and after your adaptation period.
This is important to maintaining good eye health and safe contact lens wear.
Wash hands thoroughly before handling your lenses.
Handle contact lenses over a clean towel. If your drop your lenses, they will stay clean and undamaged.
Store your lenses in the case made for them and keep the case clean.

Don't:

Use cream soaps. They can leave a film on your hands that can transfer to the lenses.
Put contact lenses in your mouth or moisten them with saliva, which is full of bacteria and a potential source of infection.
Use homemade saline solutions. Improper use of homemade saline solutions has been linked with a potentially blinding condition among soft lens wearers.

Contact lenses are made to correct vision and a good replacement of glasses but it is also true that if not handled with care they will damage your eyes. If you follow instruction from your eye doctor or optromists. It will never create problem. Contact lenses are very sensual and need a very much care like new born babie. When you start using them and caring it will become your daily routine work and you will get haptual of uising them.

I wore contacts for about nine years before I had laser eye surgery, and I never heard anything about lenses damaging your eyes. Even with lenses your vision will slowly continue to worsen. What you need to be careful of is eye strain (staring at a computer or television for too long), dry eye (keep a bottle of drops with you to prevent drying), and physical or chemical contact with your eye while the lense is in (don't rub your eyes, avoid wearing contacts when working around chemicals and fumes, always remove and cleanse lenses when dust or other painful particles get in your eye). Talk with your eye doctor if you have any other serious concerns. They will know best.

I got an ulser in my left eye two summers ago which was caused by a contact. Prior to this incident i wore contacts for thirteen years. An ulser in the eye is a very bad infection. doctors thought i might lose sight out my eye, The usler was treated and went away, but it left scar tissue on my pupil and now my sight out of my left eye is horrible. almost like i am looking into a cloudy mirror. be careful.

If the lenses have been made particularly for you, they should not damage your eyes unless they're not put in properly. The problems lie with trying to wear generic lenses or ones that haven't been tailored for your specific eye shape and condition.

I have been wearing contacts for over 10 years now and haven't had any problems. Just make sure you are taking good care of them. Take them out when your eyes get tired....try not to sleep with them in....replace them when you are supposed to...and see your eye doctor every year for a complete exam! Good luck!

not if they fit properly, my eyesight has improved somewhat over the years and I have been wearing contacts for 25 years now - nothing beats that feeling of being able to see unrestricted (no frames on the face)

my eye doctor told me that contacts can only be harmful to your sight if you don't care for them properly. make sure you clean them before you put them in your eye (put solution on palm of clean hand and clean contact in palm) and take them out regularly to give your eye oxygen. good luck!
