Everything except the fingers I can stop generally but I don't even notice I'm cracking my fingers, and it feels so much better when they click! I'm told it's bad for you... I've been doing it about 12 years and just don't know how to stop it! Anybody managed to give it up? I need help!

I have been told that doing this can lead to arthritis later, so think about when you are older and the pain that arthritis sufferers have to bear and maybe this will help you to stop. A habit is very difficult to break, as soon as you realize you are doing it, stop and don't crack any more, if you've cracked 2 fingers try to realize what you are doing and don't do anymore. If you really can't stop yourself, try hypnotherapy this may help!!

I heard many times that, aside from annoying other people, there is nothing wrong with cracking your knuckles. Doesn't make them bigger or lead to arthritis.

Cracking other things could lead to problems though. I was told that cracking my chest could lead to intercostal chondritis, so I imaging back and knee cracking could have similar adverse effects.

Honestly cracking your fingers and back arnt bad things. What it does is releases the air between the bones. Relieves stress... so crack away! Oh and it can relieve pain

i recently asked my dr about that exact same thing cause i have a habit of cracking my back and i have a bad back so i wanted to know if that was making it worse....he told me that it isn't bad to crack your bones, you are actually only releasing something from between the joints and it doesn't hurt anything, it is actually kind of good for them to be cracked.....i was shocked!!!! but if my dr is correct, then crack away!!!!

OOOOH! Girl you better stop if you dont you will have knuckles like a gorilla because of the ligaments around the joints. They get bigger and bigger. Keep it up and you will look like a gorilla when you are older. I will post a photo that shows what my uncle looks like who does that. People are always throwing bananas at him at family reunions.
Please dont do it. Go to the vitamin store and ask them to give you something for bad joints! Not the kind you smoke.

No, cracking your fingers does no harm. People used to say that it causes arthritis, but that's a lie. Don't worry about it, it's not hurting you.

I always thought it was bad for you, but I read an article about it and it said that cracking your knuckles doesn't harm you at all.
I tryed to stop, but it's so addictive.
It's more shameful than being hook or phonics.

There is nothing wrong with cracking your bones exept that some people find it annoying. Only stop if you want to and if you dont want to stop then carry on and to hell with what other people think.

There's nothing to worry about; what you're doing is disrupting the nitrogen pockets that have built up. Nothing harmful there.
A good rule of thumb is: if it hurts, then stop what you're doing.
Happy cracking!
