If they started on Bud or Coors Light, then I don't blame them for hating it.
They should try a really good, well-crafted beer that actually TASTES like something. But isn't too heavy. Have them try Magic Hat #9, or Hoegarten if you can get it. It's a Belgian Wheat beer that is awesome w/ an orange slice. The beer itself tastes almost floral. There's also Sam Adams Oktoborfest, but they should have it w/in the next couple weeks because it's a seasonal brew & won't be too good for long. Another really easy drinking beer is Blue Moon (another Belgian), or even Killians' Red.
W/out trying to sound snotty about it, try to tell them that a drink doesn't have to be SWEET to be enjoyable. A really good beer should be savored like a good wine. Cheers!

Depedning on where you live. I live in Canada and you can get beers that have a fruity flavour-- like blueberry and raspberry beer. They dont have such a strong taste.
My suggestion would be to go to the beer store and ask about the different beers.
I myself like Keiths (its CDN so I dont know what you would be able to get).
I used to be a bartender, so I also know that Coors Lite is a good choice for people who are not big beers fans because it does not leave a very strong after taste.
Stay away from imports like Stella, Heinekin, Guiness and Kilkenny- because they are stronger in flavour.
If beers not your thing-- just stick to hard liquor with mixes. Malibu rum and pinapple juice is great.
Thats off topic but ohh well:-)

I am one of those friends who despise Beer. My way to get around it is to drink cider. Woodpecker, Strongbow, Woodchuck, K, and Ace are just a few brands. They come in a bottle and some places on tap. They cost about the same as Beer and taste loads better. I have even converted a few avid beer drinkers.

Yarrow tea it has a similar taste to beer but watch out if you make it too strong.. it's terrible
worst than Buckleys. Actually the original Buckleys was made with Yarrow, probably still is! When Yarrow roots are fermented guess what you get? Root Beer! Service it in cup with a few sticks of licorce beside it! Don't tell them what it is until they taste the Yarrow tea
and ask them what they think! Then after they answer you it's time to tell them it's herbal tea!
Some will know after tasting it!

Something that's not dark. You might try Rolling Rock, it is a light beer, not a very heavy taste. Corona is in this same class of beer. If you cut up a lime and drop it in the bottle, yummy!
Also, if your friends don't like beer, try giving them some mixed drinks. They make several that are not very strong. Have them try a sex-on-the-beach. It doesn't taste like alcohol, if it's made right. Plus the easy jokes associated with the name make good ice breakers.

I generally don't like beer, but on occasion when out, I'll order a Heineken with a shot of Grenadine. It's actually pretty good.

If you can get some Belgian Kriek (cherry beer), Framboise (raspberry beer) or Gueuze (honey beer), that might be a good place to start.
