Shes 12 yrs old. She tried to kill herself. She made up all these lies about EVERYTHING.... She threw a butcher knife at her brothers friend, she poured gasoline all over her little sister and tried to light her on fire. They took her to a psychiatric center last night because noone knows what is wrong with her. Everyone thought she had ADHD at one point, but at the center was diagnosed as NOT having ADHD. She said that her best friend died when she was only 5, shes talking about my mom. It KILLS me to watch her suffer like this, and moreso because I still suffer from the loss of my mom...EVERY DAY I SUFFER. She is so beautiful, even won modeling contests and was given several acting opportunities. But my sister (her mom) wouldnt let her do those things because of her grades, and I completely agree. Shes been getting F's. She beat up her best friend, and said her friend started it, but her own brother who was there said they were just watching tv when she attacked her. WHAT IS THIS?

This is the second time she's tried to cut her wrists.... If we dont take this seriously, she might succeed one day. I dont believe she is doing this for attention when you combine it with everything else. Especially beating up her friend, They were friends since they were babys and anna accused her of punching her first, when 4 other people in the room saw the whole thing and she just attacked her. Its almost as if she convinced herself somehow that what she was thinking was actually happening. Im so worried.

I don't have a good answer. I just wanted to say please be patient with her. You sound like a great aunt. Support her no matter how she acts. She needs you. So sorry to hear about your mom.

Poor girl. She sounds psychotic. It is treatable with medications and therapy. They've probably started her on something like Geodon and a mild tranquilizer. The good thing is that she is exactly where she needs to be right now.
You may want to get yourself into therapy. If you are having trouble getting through the grieving process for your mother (has it been 7 years now?) you should have been over the worst of it a long time ago and no longer "suffering." I miss my mother, too (died 13 years ago) but I accept it and have moved on.

Well best bet is psych visit of course....make sure they do blood work..
one of my cousins flipped out. It started when she was 11 or 12. she would run away, , sleep with men (not boys) she would attack her family members out of the blue. Everyone at first thought it was rebellion...it took 3 years for a simple blood test to tell family what was wrong// Over active thyroid....I'm telling you it was wild!!
The other chemicals in the brain are almost overrun by an overactive thyroid....no impulse control....wildly attacking and showing no mercy!! Everybody thought she was a bad seed turned out it was really beyond her control!!!
I wish you the best of luck with your niece!!!
I'm sure its difficult!!!

There is definitely a severe emotional/mental problem of some sort going on here. Is she currently in therapy? Is she on any medications? Have her parents considered in-patient treatment anywhere? There are SO many disorders that have the characteristics you've described... Google "oppositional defiant disorder", "borderline personality disorder", "multiple personality disorder", "conduct disorder", "schizoaffective disorder", and "schizophrenia" and see if any of those symptoms fit your neice. It sounds like she is in desperate need of help no matter what the issue is.

sounds like a psychotic break on her part. It is good she is in a facility that can treat her. With time, and consistent treatment, she may be able to join society again, but it will be some time if indeed they diagnose psychosis.

No one is showing her any love. If you hug her, and if she finds a boyfriend, it wil certainly make a hell of a differents.
or
You may want to arrange institutionalization. But seriously, hug her, spread the word, she may change. If you do this, she'll display her discloser of emotions.
