I don't think we are doing a bad job as it is, we need to correct some of the mistakes our civilization has made, but the situation is by no means hopeless, quite the contrary, taking the long view, things are gradually getting better.

Interesting question, but I'd have to say no. The human race has never learned from history, the same mistakes have been made over and over again, and man will always be a greedy selfish fighting animal with no long term vision.
If the world did begin all over it would be best if the human race was left out. Although there would probably be another race taking over that position.

It is going to begin all over again and it will be a better job as you put it.

Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness, 2 Peter 3/13.

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away and there was no more sea
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband..... Revelation 21/1-2.

See you there ?

There is no good or bad job of it...it is what it is...all we can do, ever, is make the best decisions we can toward our individual and collective goals, and not forget that we are human beings.

There are no historical events that can be changed with a certainty that 'it'll be "better"...better for who?, and all history is compiled by the moment passing, so if you could change one single thing from immediately negative to immediately positive, you would be responsible for effecting everything that followed, since we are human, inevitably, something you find ugly will happen...why would this other ugliness be better than the ugliness of now?

AND who are you/we/me to judge what shall be considered good or bad? What would be considered "a better job of it?"

we would only do a better job if we had the knowledge we have now,
but then again we know how to improve the world we choose not to do so.

The world did begin again, about 2000 yrs ago.
Of this/that worlds: <-BC|AD->, it's now AD->.

http://www.godshew.org/TwainShew7.htm#Worlds

Of two hopes, the latter one is called "better hope".
Of two testaments, the last is a "better testament".

And AD-> only goes one way, unto "the end",
where you all are saved(only) by grace(only):

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ WITH YOU ALL. AMEN.

I doubt it. We should be smart enough in this day and age to do good but we're going backwards, humans inherently are failures.
The human race is regressing at the present time.

Most likely not. We all have our own ideas of how to do it better. soonner or later, we will mess it up again unless we have guidance from a higher power.

If we were able to keep the knowledge we've gained and know how to work together in peace...yeah things would be completely different.
