Everytime I use a friends lighter I always pocket it without even realizing it doesnt belong to me. I don't do it on purpose it just seems natural to me. Do you do the same or are you a victim of lighter theifs? I put this in the drink category because i think my drinkers enjoy a cig after there first drink.

Guilty.

I have been known to come home with a whole rainbow of colors. oops. I don't do it on purpose, honest! I just don't think about where it came from. and think it belongs in my pocket/purse. glad to see I'm not alone.

If there was a support group for this I would join.

I have always been a chronic victim of lighter theft. However, after reading all of these answers, I've now decided I'm going to jump the fence and become a lighter thief.

Gone are the days I buy 5-packs of lighters only to have 4 of them missing the following day.

No more shall I walk into a bar with one lighter and walk out with a pack of bar matches.

Never again will I light someone's cigarette for them so my lighter doesn't go into their pocket!

Goodbye, futile efforts to put identifying marks on my lights with nail polish, permanent markers, and pocket knives!

I'm going to clean my purse out next week, and if it isn't filled with 30-40 lighters, I'm going to sue everyone here who admits to being a lighter thief. You've been the bane of my existence too long.

I never seem to be able to keep a lighter, I don't even buy them anymore. But, when I do have a lighter in my pocket, it's never mine, and I've ended up with it somehow. I'm a lighter thief.

OMG, I do this all the time. So do all my friends, we always end up with eachothers lighters or someone will end up with all of em and sometimes I end up with none! There is always a lighter shortage going around, so I usually buy the packs of Bic lighters and keep a whole bunch in my car or a fe in my purse....but somehow I always end up with one or none!

LOL!! When I used to smoke, I was the worst lighter thief. Not intentionally, but you know how it is. A friend of mine used to make me empty my pockets before I left her house!

lol it's true! My friend would always accuse me of stealing his lighter every time it went missing because I always just accidentally kept it. There were quite a few times though, when I actually didn't take it. Still wouldn't believe me. You're right, just instinct.

no not I cause I don't smoke. However Pens or Pencils I often put them in my waist bag without realizing they are not mine! I take them to the Post Office cause they have a lost and found container. People can go there and get there items. I often don't know where the Pen or Pencils came from. Of course the Lost & Found container at the post office has more keys than other things. Some post office keep the keys that are found in a seperate container!
Oh a few charge 5 cents for access to the lost and found container!

Constantly! It's inevitable for lighters to make the rounds in drinking (and smoking) crowds.
