Watching Mayweather's fights are like watching Phernell Whitaker's fights. They seem to be afraid to get hit and stand toe-to-toe like real warriors. It's definately not like watching Morales vs Pacquiao, Chicon vs. Edwards, or any of Duran's fights.

Eprometheus ~
In my opinion, not only does Floyd fight like a coward he is a pure coward in his very nature. He fights only fights that he and his camp know that he can win, handpicking limited opposition is not a true Champions way. He gets upset when he's criticized and doesn't look at the criticism as constructive. When Larry merchant was questioning him about his style of fighting Floyd quipped "Why don't you stick to commentating and let me do the fighting." That's Larry's job, it's to give his opinion about the fight and the fighters, but Floyd doesn't like if you're not in agreement with him.
A coward beats women, which Floyd has done on several occasions. He beat the mother of three of his children Josie Harris, he beat two woman in Grand Rapids Michigan and two more in Las Vegas where he received a suspended sentence and ordered to take "Impulse - Control Counseling" all of this is a matter of public record.
A coward turns down 8 million dollars to fight a up and coming fighter (Margarito) who's hungry and can punch instead of fighting a guy (Baldomir) for two million who he knows hands down he can beat.
A coward is what the public sees and knows, this is why the Mayweather vs Baldomir fight only sold 9,000 seats out of 18,000 seats at the Mandalay Bay Hotel & Casino, people that bought general admission seats were allowed to get closer to the ring to make it look like a full house.
Yes Eprometheus, Floyd is indeed a coward and it a good to see you noticed along with roughly 9,000 other "Fans".

He definately doesnt fight like a coward. He fights smart. There is absolutely no reason to be Arturo Gatti if you dont have to. You ever heard Meldrick Taylor or Tommy Hearns speak nowadays? There is a reason you dont want to get puched in the head repeatedly if you dont have. Floyd is a weight class where is the naturally smaller guy almost always, so he has to fight this way (and he just doenst have KO power at WW). Now Im not a Floyd fan, but there have been very few people that can fight like him and Pernell did. Anybody can go in there and bang away (though some dont have the heart or chin to keep it up). As a fan I like this type of technical boxing just as much as brawl. I just dont like the most talented fighter out there procaliming his greatness but only fighting mediocre opposition.

Some of you dudes are just brainless and don't understand the true art of boxing! You're not in the ring to get punched by any means. Some boxers may absorb punches as a way to mislead there opponent, but not to show anyone how tough he really his. To call Mayweather a coward for not going toe-to-toe is like calling a running back a coward for not allowing someone to tackle him. This man is career is boxing... and if he's making money doing it and staying on top he's doing it the right way! So please stop all the hating on the man. I'm not even a fan of this cat, but I still have to say that much!

Boxing and fighting are 2 different things. He'd probably get KO'd if he stood toe-to-toe with anyone, but he's the best pure Boxer in the sport. You don't necessarily have to be a "real warrior" to compete in the ring. Look where that style took Gatti and Tyson. He is no where near a coward, he just knows how to win in his own style. Might be boring but he never lost. Pound for Pound King, only a fool would disagree.

i would say that he is. He fights people that only suite his style. He is a good technician at boxing but boxing is a sport of compitition, i dont want to pay 50+ dollars for sparring exhibition. he ducks fighters good enough to challenge him. case in point, zab judah. he still fought after zab got a beatdown because the fight would generate buzz.

he should fight carlos hernandez again. carlos pulled it out the first time but the decision was given to floyd.

Oh and floyd, you need to stop with the excuses on why you did not k.o. the other guy. You dont hit hard, we all know that, stop with that i broke 1 or even both hands in the 4th round.

Man, i guess a lot of folks just don't like Mayweather. He's just a smart fighter who uses his gifts to his advantage. Why take punishment when you don't have too? I have boxed before and the object of the game is to hit and not get hit and make the other guy fight your fight. Boxing is a very rough sport and if you have the skills to minimize the damage, you have to do it. A lot of people say Floyd just runs but if you watch his fights closely you'll see that a lot of times he's right in front of his opponents and he is quick enough to make them miss when they punch at him and he counters effectively. And i wasn't always a Floyd fan but not because of the way he fights, i thought he was a little to arrogant but when he beat Diego Corrales in the fashion that he did, i gave him his props. So whether you like or dislike Floyd and his style, you have to admit he is one of the most skillfull fighters to come along since Ray Leonard.

I wouldn't say a coward. He fights a style that allows him to win easy. It does make it hard to say Mayweather is in the same league as Robinson or Armstrong who had great skills but also could close the show. KO's show more dominance than decison wins in my opinion so Floyd is not making convincing arguement that he is one of the best ever.

Druz puts it very well, he is a professional, the longer he remains undefeated the more money he will make, if there is someone out there to beat him eventually it will happen!!
