So, very quietly, pass here a note to meet you, or ask if she is interested. She will be reading, so no harm, no foul!

What difference does it make where she works? If you polite, well spoken and know your place, you can ask any woman out for a date! - but don't call it a date, it isn't one until after you have met and she agrees to go out with you. Wait until she is alone at the counter, go up with you book as though you want to ask a question, or whatever! - CHECK and make sure there is NO engagement ring, wedding rings FIRST - then start by saying something like - "this is quite forward of me, but I would like to take you out, a coffee at first, if YOU like", and pause, watch for her "facial" expression - and wait for HER answer, if she gives you a look like - "WHAT THE ****" you know right then an there the answer will be NO! - Apologize and leave it at that. If the look is of "astonishment" - she might be receptive - then Go from there. Really - start with a coffee first. What you are seeing in her might be the totally opposite in a one on one encounter. Good Luck - ps: don't worry about the security guards - they will only come if you make a fool out of yourself - or SHE calls them over.

Omg you can get 5 years if you plead not guilty and get found guilty and if you go guilty you are likely to get a 2 and a half to a 3, stay clear of librarians m8 as they are trouble.... section 2 paragraph 4b states one must not engage librarian ( m or f ) in a manner which constitutes to a sexual nature... as librarians work directly as a civil servant for her majesty the Queen and her libraries plus you are likely to be thrown out on your ear and reported straight to the police. Don't do it man they are dangerous.

Yes, you will have to watch out for the literary mafia, they look for any sign of romantic behaviour in there and crush it very brutally. It is a well known fact that all librarians wear their hair in a bun, dress in very dour passion killing clothing and have a very prim and proper manner at all times. " We don't want that sort of mentality in council property, it is OK in the more "racier" novellas, hem hem, but what would the town clerk say? I would not be able to hold my head high in society if I aquiessed to your salacious entreties! This is not a Jane Austen novel young man, this is the municipal library! Any more of this and I will withdraw your borrowing rights!"
But if she is fit (Body of Jessica Rabbit and the north of a Bottichelli angel) then go right ahead. Snurf snurf.

Making romantic or sexual advances to ANYONE in their workplace can be considered sexual harassment. They are there to work, not to socialize. And just because you are attracted to her, does not mean that she feels the same, so don't assume.
If you really genuinely like her, and want to ask her out: write her a note introducing yourself, explaining that you like her and would like to take her on a date, but don't wish to hassle her while she is working or make her uncomfortable, and give her a way to contact you, by phone or email. Pass the note to her and walk away. If she does not contact you, let it go. Do not hang out the desk where she works or wait outside the library, or she will think you are a stalker.

Only if her husband finds out!
If she were a Nurse at a hospital, and you fancied her, surely you would not expect to get in to trouble because . . . . hospitals are for sick people.. Would you?
If your Librarian lady is free and gives you a ' come on ' smile, then ask her the question politely,- but not when she is busy with customers. Good luck.

As long as you're not creepy about it, I don't see why security would eject you from the library for flirting with the librarian. I think that you can ask her out with finesse and not get busted. Try it!

Well I'm a Librarian, and I've had men come on to me. It's kinda odd, but I guess it all depends on how you approach her. At my Library, we don't have Security. So I guess it would be to talk to her. But I would suggest you befriend her first.

i dont see anything wrong by asking someone out. doesnt matter where you are.
should try doing something silly if you are afraid to talk to her directly in the library. like slipping her a note as you check out books with "would you like to come out for coffee with me during your break?" written on it. make sure to look at her in the eyes. she would problably reply. =)

Might I suggest a little subtlety??? Like maybe initiate a little chit-chat for a while and look for some signals as to whether she's nice or not.
