If they are girly girls, they likely are into the princesses like all other girls that age- the only problem with that is that they probably already have a ton of princess stuff, however, this is usually what they LOVE. You might want to consider getting one of the leap pad learning games or something like that. If they are girls, they may even be interested in shopping for themselves, so maybe a giftcard to a childrens clothing store.

My daughter just turned three. The people coming to her party asked what she needed. The only answer I really gave was clothes, and she got those but here are other things that people got her that are fabulous:
She got this li'l remote control caterpillar that she loves.
She got these dominos that leap frog makes that she loves to play w/ - and it happens to be educational.
She got a plug and play dora video game. It's her first of the kind so she's still getting used to the whole joystick concept but she likes it all the same.
She got a CareBear that says something when you press his little button.
She got a Dora table & chairs set that she LOOOOVES!!!
She got this cool Pooh coloring book set. It came with 6 coloring books and crayons. Each set of facing pages has the picture twice. The left-hand page has it colored in and the right hand page has it blank. Sort of like an implied color by number.
And she got a new bedtime story book.
She loves it all. If you know that's what they like - great. Go w/ what they like or what their parents suggest. But these are just some ideas that people came up w/ all they're own.
Hope this helps at all.

baby dolls and barbies are always popular. You could get that for the 3 year old. The four year old might like a jewelry box that when you open it a ballerina dances to a song (such as the link below) and you could include a bracelet or necklace in the box.

Three and four year old girls are totally into Barbie. Since one girl likes ballet, get Barbie The Nutcracker DVD and dolls.

I would think a baby doll for both of them...maybe a ballerina barbie for the four year old and a baby doll for the three year old.
They have some at Walmart (baby dolls, with all kinds of names, I bet you could find one with the little girl's name)

I have many granddaughters, lol. Among them one is 3, one 5 and one 8 and they are all different, but all love the Disney Princess movies and the Barbie Movies. And the dress up clothes that go with them. I got them a box of princess dresses two years ago, their moms say they have to hide them or they will wear them everyday.

Make her a tutu! A piece of elastic and a few yards of tulle (3-4 yards- multi colors is great) cut strips about 2" wide and about 20-24" long double each strip over the elastic and tuck the loose ends through the loop, pull tight. As you add more bunch them together for a full, fluffy delightful play thing!!
