I have a 97 jetta and had to have the ignition replaced due to a recall. It was for all 97 jettas and golfs with less than 100k or 8 years old or less. I think the time has expired. But it maybe the issue. Another thing that will happen if it's the ignition is you will loose your wipers, headlights, and A/C. It sucks if your driving on a 98 degree night in a rain storm, believe me!

1. You are having this problem because the car was built by Volkswagen.

2. Wrong category, unless you want to discuss Golf carts (which are more reliable than Volkswagens).

3. After you get your Golf fixed, you should get your shift key fixed. It is stuck, which makes your messages annoying to read.
