You have to follow your heart. Yes, it's ok for a child in a Hindi family to convert to Islam. It shows a thinking person, I hope.

No one can tell anyone what beliefs they should hold sacred. Belief is a personal matter, and only the individual can decide what path is right for them.
Coming out can be difficult. I remember when I told my parents that I was Wiccan, my mother fought me tooth and nail. My father simply asked if I was certain this was the path I should follow. I answered in the affirmative and the matter was closed, so far as he was concerned. My mother still believes that one day I will "see my folly and find Christianity again."
No matter how the person chooses to tell them, they should do so as soon as possible. The longer the parents belief that the individual is happy in one religion while he or she actually practices another, the harder it is going to be for both parties.

I think it's mainly a cultural thing. There are many paths to God. He is known by many names. Our culture has chosen one of these for us. My religion suits me; I was brought up in it. People who don't have that cultural grounding in a particular religion feel lost; they are searching for something, a faith for themselves.
If someone feels they want to convert, they should do so. Their family may not understand. Each member of the family has to make their own decision, and if they love one another, at least tolerate those decisions.
People think that if you're brought up in a particular culture or religion, you accept it blindly. That's rubbish. You always question.

While parents have the responsibility to look after their child in a spiritual way, by looking for spritual truth and giving them a real heritage through it, the child themselves must ultimately decide what they want for themselves. With some faiths, it is difficult.
The reason why we have so many religions is that individuals have their own idea of what God wants them to do.

My own advice which helped some people is why you don’t talk to the God himself and ask him. It’s not that strange , if we really thinks that there is a GOD, and he created all this World with all the creatures, then of course he could see us, He could help us, and if we really want to know him, HE WILL HELP US, HE WILL LEAD US, but just if we really really want to know,.
God created everything and wanted the Humans to look around and think if there is someone behind that intelligence of all that creations.
I have had many experiences with friends discussing that and I asked them to do one fair thing regarding of all the religions:
So just Ask him to do that, To Go to His Own place, Look to Up , and Talk to him , Ask the God Twice a Day that he want anything to Prove that there is a God and to lead Him to the Right religion.
If he did that from the bottom of his heart, Believe me he will know, and you’ll be surprised how much peace and bliss he will feel , but The God always want to see that we’re serious , that we’re really want to know him.
It’s easy but just the Serious people will do that and it’s really Works.
The Muslims Quraan Tells that the The God Says “When My servants ask thee concerning Me, I am indeed close (to them): I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calleth on Me: Let them also, with a will, Listen to My call, and believe in Me: That they may walk in the right way”

Since there can be only one straight line between two points, all others are curved. Same way the reach God Almighty can be only one. We need to judge with open eyes and mind which is that path, cos, on the Day of Judgement we shall be liable for what we do and what we do not....... So search for the Only Straight Path..... we call it Seerat-e-Mustaqeem (The Straight Path). How does he say to his parents that he wants to marry such and such girl. Is not this his responsibility to save himself as well as his parents from Hell-fire

personal choice - some people stick with the famliy religion, while others explore and make a choice to follow their heart. That sometimes is very hard news for parents who have strict beliefs.

how do we know which is right for us? There can only be "one true religion" Noah and his family had the "true religion then" that is why they survived.
Below is the definition of "true & false"
What is false religion?
Why does religion seem to be at the root of so many problems?
The fault lies, not with all religion, but with “false” religion.
False Religion...MEDDLES IN WAR AND POLITICS: How many religions can you think of whose members engage in war?
False Religion...SPREADS FALSE DOCTRINE: Most religions teach that the soul of spirit is some invisible part of a human that survives the death of the physical body. However, the Bible teaches a different doctrine. “The soul that is sinning, it itself will die.” Ezekiel 18:4 Jesus taught that the dead will be resurrected, an unnecessary action if humans had an immortal soul. Does your religion teach that the soul does not die?
False Religion...TOLERATES IMMORAL SEX: Church groups ordain gay and lesbian members of the clergy. What, though, does the Bible teach? It plainly states: “Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men.” 1 Cor. 6:9,10 Do you know of religions that condone immoral sex?
How to identify true religion.
True Religion...PRACTICES LOVE: True worshippers are “no part of the world,” are not divided by race or culture, and display “love among themselves.” Rather than killing one another, they are willing to die for one another.
True Religion...TRUSTS GOD'S WORD: Instead of teaching “tradition” and “commands of men as doctrines,” true religion bases its doctrine on God's Word, the Bible
True Religion...STRENGTHENS FAMILIES AND UPHOLDS HIGH MORAL STANDARDS: True religion trains husbands to “love their wives as their own bodies,” helps wives to develop “deep respect for their husbands,” and teaches children to “be obedient to their parents.”
True Religion is available, search for it.

Why do we have to have any religion, lets just be humanitarians and live in peace with each other.
Religion serves only one purpose and that is to give the people at the top POWER over other people.
