St. John of the Cross talks about this in his book "Dark Night of the Soul." He says (in a nutshell) it is to teach us to seek God out of love and a pure desire to please Him rather than out of seeking spiritual goods (like the feeling of joy we sometimes are graced with during prayer.) This way, even though we feel it is the opposite, God is bringing us closer to him and our hearts and souls are being purified.
I imagine you must be going through some difficult times right now for having posted this question. I will keep you in my prayers. Thanks for reading and God bless!

it relatively is been a steady technique. Cain invented his very own faith to place distance between him and the eternal. After the giving of the ten Commandments, many of the youngsters of Israel needed Moses to be interior the presence of the eternal yet they had to stay away. in the process the time of Samuel, the youngsters of Israel (the trend u . s . a .) desperate they needed a human king like the different countries. The eternal allowed it even although that meant much greater distance between guy and the eternal. interior the 1960's interior the united states, the optimum courtroom interior the land decreed that prayer in college replaced into outlawed. This greater suitable the area. for that reason touch, even oblique, is a reasonably uncommon situation enjoyed via the few. Many are called, few chosen. Of the few chosen, even fewer are committed. maximum human beings do no longer understand what's needed for being heard via the eternal. He that turns his ear far flung from listening to the regulation, even his prayer is an abomination (Proverbs 28:9). Reconciliation by using Christ is a manner of narrowing the area.

God is right where we left him.
Get into real honest prayer. Tell God what he already knows. and be still and know that he is God.
Read the bible and ask God what you need to learn from this. Thank him for the lesson being provided, because you know that God does not test those who do not belong to him.
Come out the other side of your trial with a wonderful testimony meant to help another going through a trial.

There are more barriers between us and god now and more things to get in the way, it is not that he is far away but that we are moving further away from him. He is still there, beauty is the sign of God all around you.

There is a mechanism in the human body that works autonomously. One of its effects is that when we are depressed (low energy) or pre-occupied, we lower the eyes and the head and look down. Sad people look down!! We strenghten that by our words: "I feel down", or "I'm in the dumps", etc...
When we are in a up-swing on the electromagnetic wave of LIFE, we look up and our head tilts lightly upwards. We express in our words: "I feel up" etc.. stimulating our receivers of energy from beyond the body (divine) and we receive more "subtle energy".
That process of lifting the eyes stimulates the radio-receiver that is the "pineal" gland and what some call the "Pituitary body", also known as the "third eye" and we receive an energy flow that we interpret as energy coming from beyond or from the Divine. In a sense that explanation is correct as we are "hard-wired" for that mystical experience so we (HOMO SAPIENS) mutated and became that way by some "design" that we can call "divine" or very lofty and perfect. We are food processors, emotion processors but also energy processors. We take energy from the sun and the stars etc and we ground it and we receive energy from the earth and we send it to the Cosmos. That is the process we call life. Most of it is automatic or autonomous and we are not consious of it unless we take the time to experiment.
When we are depressed we do the opposite and we reduce the energy flow from the "beyond" by shutting down our "receiver" and we swing on the up and down of LIFE without much awareness that we are the ones doing it and the DIVINE part is the creation of such a magnificent mechanism made of carbon, and a few elements and mostly water. And this entity has a "consiousness" of self and of the Divine plan or INTELLIGENCE of LIFE....
Try and lift you eyes next time you are tried and you will find that the DIVINE, being everything or the ALL, does not and cannot go anywhere because IT is YOU and YOU are IT. Remember from John 1, When the ONE, the LOGOS (logic as difined by sound using words) Created, it created from ITSELF as there was nothing. IT does not leave any part of itself nor can it become MORE of ITSELF....the ONE just IS....The differences we feel in ITS presence are from us, not from IT..
ONE is ALL and ALL is ONE... YOU are a part of this magnificent and perfect process...

...It is said, when God seems far away, guess who moved? You did, not Him.
...To quote another, our disappointments are His appointments.
...In discouraging times, draw close to Him - have devotions and do what you ought to do, whether or not the feeling is present.
...I will close with a quote from Jim Elliot, the martyred missionary to the Auca Indians - he said, "I may no longer depend on pleasant impulses to bring me before the Lord. I must rather respond to principles I know to be right, whether I feel them to be enjoyable or not."
...Draw near to Him, and He will draw near to you. Remember and believe His word. He is altogether trustworthy, faithful, and true, and He loves us intensely.

God said, I will never leave you or forsake you. Be with you until the end of the world.
hopes this helps.

There are times people need to fly on their own, and times when they need someone to hold them up.
God knows when those times are ... better than we do ... and he's never very far away.
