its a good time to have her spayed. it will be strange for her being at the vets but once the operation is over and she comes around she ll be tired and will sleep anyway. and before she no s it youll be back to pick her up. having her spayed is the right thing to do if you dont intend breeding. it can also prevent problems in later life. your being a responsible dog owner. everyone worries and feels guilty when their baby has to be left to get neutered. i did when my pup went to get castrated.

At the Humane Society here they do it no matter how young the puppy is. She may be scared but she won't remember it later. The staff at vet's offices love animals and will treat her very well. My dog was 4 months old and wanted to play with the staff the whole time when I was picking him up after the surgery the next morning. Just remember that it is the best thing to do, you're helping all dogs out there by ensuring there won't be unwanted puppies. It's really the right thing to do, she won't remember it at all, and it's not too soon. I know it's hard, so just keep reminding yourself!

No, no, no... it's not too soon. It's better for your dog all around! 4-6 months and before her first cycle is the best. It helps dogs live longer and healthier lives, it can eliminate or reduce the incidence of a number of health problems that can be very difficult or expensive to treat, it eliminates the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the incidence of breast cancer, particularly when your pet is spayed before her first estrous cycle. It's better for YOU because spaying and makes pets better, more affectionate companions. Estrus lasts an average of six to 12 days, often twice a year, in dogs. Females in heat can cry incessantly, show nervous behavior, and attract unwanted male animals. It's horrible! Also, unsterilized animals often exhibit more behavior and temperament problems than do those who have been spayed or neutered. Spaying can make pets less likely to bite, roam the neighborhood, run away, or get into fights. All in all, it's better for everyone!

You are doing the best thing for her. Don't worry, my puppy was spayed at 8 weeks at the humane society. 6 months is definitely not too old. Keeping spays over night is a regular practice at most Veterinary hospitals or clinics. Your puppy may seem anxious because you are.

She's a dog, not a person. Don't put your emotions onto her. Within an hour she will have forgotten all about it.
Just like you would with a kid at kindergarten, don't fawn all over her when you leave her at the vet. Just drop her off, pat her on the head, and be on your way. Take a favorite blanket or toy.
When she comes home act as if nothing has happened. You don't want to create anxiety about the vet. And if you have it, so will she.
We used to live around the corner from our vet. We would take our dogs in once a week or so just for a treat. They loved going to the vet!!!
If your vet says it's OK then it's OK.

I am proud of you for wanting to get the population of pets down. I wish more pet owners felt this way. Six months is the ideal age to get them neutered/spayed. She will be alright, animals don't have the same feelings we have. They have no concept of time, for example: when I leave my house, whether I am gone 5 minutes or 5 hours, my dachshund is tickled to death to see me. He has been neutered since he was 6 months old too. He is almost 11 years old now. Good Luck! You are doing a great service for your pet. P.S. Take her favorite toy or blanket with her, it will make her feel at home.

I think that she will be fine. When my dog was 6 months old we got him neutered. We were really worried that he would be scared and lonely. The next day when we went to get him from the vet's he came to see us for a minute than ran back to the assistant that he "bonded" with, and with new technology and medical advancements everything will work out alright. and this shows that you are a responsible owner for 1) getting your pet spayed, and 2) worrying about your puppy. don't worry everything will be fine.

no, its fine. they wanted to do my dog at 8wks, i was sooo worried. she stayed there over night and then called us to say she had a parasite and wouldnt do it, then a month later we took her back and she still had the parasite remnints, so we took her home, then a month later we took her back and she's fine. she was 4 months old when it was done, and she still has a week to go before she's fully healed. she never even knew she had surgery. but at least she's been at the vet and borders a bunch of times now so she's getting used to it.
she will be fine. i promise. she may really like staying there. my other dog does. we tell her she's going to the puppy hotel and she goes nuts!!! and then she barks the whole way there and then when we pick her up she's hoarse and still barking the whole way home like she's telling us about everything that happened.

I don't know if it's too soon or not, but yeah she'll be scared in the room. She'll be all right, though. They'll put her under some gas, give her a breathing tube thing, and just spay her. She'll be good as new when she wakes up. Oh, and make sure to give her lots of attention and love when she comes home. =)

i just had my puppy done a few days ago and she is 4 months old.. and now she is more active then before. be happy for your puppy that it will not have puppies and you will not have that worry later on. and the sooner you get it done the better for the puppy. if you feel sad and scared so will your puppy. so try and make her feel good about going to the vet.
