I have a co-worker who just passed her citizenship exam and is taking the oath next week.

Does anyone have an idea of a nice gift to celebrate?

Something with a US flag on it is the first thing that I thought of. Like a t shirt or a handbag. Or a nice Americana kind of calendar for 2007 to celebrate her first year as a citizen. Anything with an American symbol on it -- the statue of Liberty is a good one.

P.S. I think you're sweet to do this.

When my dad turned 80 I went to a trophy place, and had a small 5X7 plaque engraved with his Name " 80 years of Excellence" 1927-2007. Its small enough to hang on the wall, w/o being glaring. It only costs about $15 ( and he has a long name) You could do the same. Name United States Citizen 2009 ( or the full date) They have a lot of things...maybe even one with a small flag.. Go look.

A framed copy of the Constitution, a diploma she
can frame and a camera for taking her picture as
she takes the oath. Or a map of the U.S. and a map
of her birth country and in the middle little footsteps leading from one country to another. Put all this in a frame with her picture in a corner.

I did this. I bought a large American flag that can be displayed on national holidays. It was a MAJOR HIT

A book of U.S. maps with facts about the U.S. included? Just a thought, probably not very original.

A simple Sympathy Card should suffice. Hallmark do a nice range.
