From the sound of your question I'm assuming your pet may have a sore throat,or a cold with conjestion.Take a baby bottle warmer, the kind you put water in and mix in water some medicated steaming solution, plug in outlet and place this in a small room of your house along with the pet in akennel cab,let your pet breath this steam overnight for about 4 to 5 nights, and it will be ok.You can also use a poperie pot with candle under it if you haven't got a bottlewarmer for the steamer. You can also give your pet the human "Robertussin",about 4 little marks on a 3 cc syringe,or about 1/4 teaspoon per 5 lbs. every 4 to 6 hours for the cough or conjestion.Try this as it works great.

A lot of these answers are really good. Okay, it could have a cold, sore throat, be debarked, or yes and infection. To the chicken bone thing, common sense, never feed an animal table scraps in the first place, it shortens their life-span. Taking it to the vet is smart, but expensive. If you don't think it's too bad right now, just open it's mouth and look at its throat. Also, feel around under its jaw bone, too. See if anything is swolen.

It could be something serious, but it also could be something called a reverse sneeze. It's normal for dogs and I know it scared me to death the first time I heard it. I'd google it and see if the sound of a reverse sneeze is similar to what your dog sounds like. If that's the case, no worries. But, it could also be more serious, such as kennel cough.

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/trainyourdog
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.

Are you his original owner? Is it possible he's been debarked? They go in and cut out holes in the larynx, and it sounds like a cough instead of a bark. I agree with the first answer, take him in just to be sure. I suppose it could be some kind of throat infection, too.

He's either got Kennel cough (see a vet quickly!), allergies (Give some benadryl), or he has something lodged in his throat. Has he been eating normal? You really need to call the vet and see what they thing, and if they think it is necessary, then take him in.

my dog also occasionally makes weird sounds. The vet described them to me as "reverse coughing" which he said is very common in small dogs especially when they get excited.

My dog does this on occasion as well. I was worried, but my mom took her to the vet, who said nothing is wrong. Still, I would take your pup to the vet just to make sure.
