Mat 5: 22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

In a Biblical sense, the Hebrew word for a "fool" implies calling someone an apostate (Look up the English word "apostate" in the dictionary if you are unsure what that means). The English word "fool" is a bad translation, since in English the word "fool" simply means "stupid", and is not what Jesus was referring to.

It is not a good idea to miss-quote Christian scripture to a Christian who has actually studied scripture.

I think it was something to the effect that He pitied the poor fool who called some one a fool. Maybe that was Mr. T, I get them mixed up. No, that was Jesus all right!

Well...considering Jesus himself called people fools, and Jesus is without sin, then I don't think it is a sin. Although God can consider it anything He wants to. All we can do is try to live the best life possible. God realizes we'll will mess up, and he is OK with that.

Mat 5:22 But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to his brother, "Raca" is answerable to the Sanhedrin, but anyone who says, "You fool!" will be in danger of the fire of hell.
It means that we must control our tongue because we will be held accountable for the things that we say out of anger. Anger keeps us from developing a spirit pleasing to God.

I think in it's proper context, the passage used fool as an example, not as a specific "bad word" You can put moron, idot, etc in the same group I suppose.

Talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish.
Euripides (484 BC - 406 BC)

Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain - and most fools do.

The best way to convince a fool that he is wrong is to let him have his own way.
