My mother passed away in 1998 and my stepmother passed away in 2004 from cancer. Are there any scholarships or grants that I might quailfy for? My dad owns his own business so when calculating my financial qualifications, everyone counts what the business brings home, not what he makes. On top of that, he won't co-sign for and student loans. I really wanna go to school and further my education and would really apprechiate any help you can offer. Thanks.

The state, federal and college need based financial aid in grants is based on the tax return your father fills out in addition to the assets. There are also scholarships out there that does not need to be repaid. I will list some of the sources available to locate them.

First, FAFSA.ed.gov will help you tap into need based financial assistance from both the federal government and the college itself.

Second, 35 states offer a website where you can apply for college admission and state college grants at the same time which can be located at Google.com and Yahoo.com. If your state is one of the 15 states, you need to search your state's government website.

Third, your high school, if you are currently a student attending, has a list of local scholarships listed in the guidance office.

Fourth, search Google.com and Yahoo.com for scholarships based on your ethnicity, college major, and religion. There are scholarships out there that can be located on both Google and Yahoo.

Fifth, most college financial aid websites also offer a list of private scholarships from companies and organizations sometimes not affiliated with the college itself.

Finally, join at least several free membership scholarship search websites. Most are updated on a regular basis. Most offer a customized search and offer e-mail updates along with valuable advice.

Good luck!

Hi,

Great post! I had the same exact grant question a few months ago. It's really tricky to find out about this stuff on the net, but my wife bought me special special software (CD) for my birthday. The program rocks for finding the grant info you want. btw...this is the software that was featured on CNBC and in USA Today.

This company is giving away the software free (only $3.95 for shipping)!!!!!!!
Here's the link

I'm sure you'll find the info there
Good luck
