That is so wierd.........My husband and I have been mt.dew addicts for quite a while now. We have both had alot of weight gain. I try sometimes to drink juices, milk, water etc, but he has a hard time drinking anything but mt.dew. When I first saw this post I actually thought it might have been my husband. I think the best thing to do is try diet. I know it tastes like crap but I guess some sacrifices have to be made in order to lose weight. We're in the same boat with ya!! Good Luck

I was addicted to soda caffeine several years ago. I quit cold turkey. The headache lasted for 2 weeks. I could only work half days for about a week. I had thoughts of going "postal" for several days. Then my heart rate elevated by about 20 BPM for a couple days. Then it was all over... wooohooo. Since then I wake up and I really feel awake, I had no idea what I was missing when addicted to caffeine. The good news was... there was no craving to back to caffeine like with nicoteine addictions. Unfortunately there are few drinks you can get off the shelf that are not caffeinated. Check them out, and a label that says "caffeine free" does not mean there is NO caffeine, it just means the caffeine level is below some mark established by the FDA. Switching to diet drinks might actually be worse. Many of them use aspertame as a sweetener. Aspertame was developed an an ant poison, but they found a better market as a sweetener. It works on the central nervous system on ants, some people have reported neurologic problems from it as well. Problem is... I think the drink companies have lobbied strongly to keep funding away from doing serious reserch on the topic.

Back to caffeine and losing weight, caffeine does mess up your normal metabolism. Basically it makes your body look for readily available energy sources, like the sugar in your bloodstream from the drink you just drank. It slows down your body's ability to go into the fat reserves... which is what you need to do to loose weight, get away from the caffeine and you should be well on your way!

You're actually addicted to the caffeine in the Mountain Dew. You can take a pill like NoDoz that has caffeine in it without all the sugar that's in the Mountain Dew and save some calories.

Lifting weights will increase your muscle and, the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn by just walking around and breathing!

I'd recommend some brisk exercise when you're hungry. Also be sure you're drinking plenty of water! Drink a big glass of water when you get hungry! That's what I do when I'm at work and can't exercise but feel hunger pangs.

Here's the answer you don't want: STOP DRINKING MT DEW. It's really quite simple. You know you should, but would rather find a way to hold onto it instead. Sodas are the worst thing you can drink, second only to those ridiculous new "energy" drinks. The headaches will go away. It might take a few days, but aren't he health bennifits that you'll enjoy for the rest of your life worth it? Let me answer that for you, since you haven't come up with the right answer yet in your own mind: YES, it is worth it!

Good luck!

Like everyone above said, the migraines are due to the caffeine addiction. You can switch to diet mountain dew (that's what i drink) and you will not be getting the calories or sugars or anything that is in the regular mountain dew but getting the caffeine that you are addicted to.
Caffeine is one way to lose weight, it surpresses the appetite. Biut make sure you still get your needed vitamins and what not so you stay healthy.
It really depends on how much weight you are looking to lose

Just like with any "addiction," it will take self discipline to achieve success. Doing a cleanse would greatly help you to overcome your "addiction" by removing a good deal of the toxins you're feeding your body with the sugary, caffeinated drink. It can help balance your blood sugar levels and help you to crave more healthful foods, which, in turn, can help you to normalize your body weight.

Migraines are often associated with toxic build-up in the colon as well.

There are many little kits you can get at the health food store to help you cleanse. I would recommend a kit called the Cleansing Trio produced by Young Living. They also produce an antioxidant drink called NingXia Red that might help you kick your addiction to Mountain Dew by replacing your Mountain Dew intake with the antioxidant juice and lots of water until you're feeling better and you break your cycle. If you'd like more information or have difficulty finding the products I've mentioned, please contact me.

Dealt with the same issue by switching to MD from fountain rather than bottle. Starting by mixing a small amount of Sprite with it (which is caffeine free). Slowly increased the mixture until it was 90% Sprite. Then was able to stop without the head aches. Take about three weeks to get off it - and rid of the caffeine addiction.

Try subsituting a different, more healthy, drink instead of mountain dew. I would lay off the soda to stop the headaches, look for something without caffine.

ANYTHING you drink with High Fructose Corn Syrup(HFCS) will cause you to gain weight. HFCS was used to replace sugar in the early 80's because it cost less. It was recently proven that HFCS can not be broken down by the human body and converts directly to FAT. Funny thing is, if you read the newspaper or watch the news, they are constantly trying to figure out why the obesity problem has quadrupled in the US since the early 80's! Almost everything has HFCS (read the label)!

So I will get off my soap box and answer your question. Switch to coffee so you get caffeine and NO HFCS. Slowly drink less coffee (half cup of regular mixed with half cup of Decaf, etc.).

Good luck!
