My sister says she has blood from her rectum when passing gas lately. Her hemoglobin is normal and she feels well. Can someone please tell me what might be causing this to happen?

Okay the possible causes are the following :

She could have a small rectal tear often caused by constipation.

It could be haemorrhoids

It could be colitis (esp. if there is mucus too)

It could be cancer

Whichever of the above, your sister needs to go see her doctor. I know it is embarrassing but rectal bleeding should never be ignored. Even if it is only a very small amount.

People literally can die from embarrassment when they ignore these kinds of symptoms

I'm sure that it's more likely to be one of the first two described above. The sooner she's seen the better.

If she is straining whilst passing gas she may have hemorrhoids, that are causing the blood.

If, however, there is a large amount of blood, or if she is really worried, then the best thing to do would be to consult a doctor.

Unexplained internal bleeding is nothing you should be guessing or asking on the internet forum about. It could be very critical. Go see a doctor right away.

I wouldn't be assuming the worst though. If it is noticably red, then likely, it is coming from very low part of your system, ie. hemorroids. BUT, there is a possibilities of far more serious and fatal if left unattended problems. I don't think you want to be guessing....
