Looking for the Surnames of Allen & Sturgis/Sturges. I know alot of them are buried in Lily Lake Cemetery. Some are buried in East Batavia. Not sure of Blackberry, etc. Therer is no listing of a phone number for said cemetery. Is there some way for me to find out who is buried there via the computer? Thank you.

Hey Marthae,

I found a few sites about Lily Lake Cemetery. Then there is a search string for Batavia. Hope this helps.

http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilkane/
is all about Kane County. Some US Gen Web sites have cemetery listings, some don't. The county genealogical society might do lookups, either for a donation or out of the goodness of their hearts.

http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi
has 91 people surnamed ALLEN with death place Kane, IL - you have to use the two-character abbreviation, but case doesn't matter. I didn't try Sturgis; you could.

http://genforum.genealogy.com/il/kane/
is devoted to Kane County, but it looks like there are dozens of questions and few answers.

http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=an&p=localities.northam.usa.states.illinois.counties.kane
is also devoted to Kane County. It looks a bit more active.

Finally, go to
http://lists.rootsweb.com/
click down through USA -> Illinois -> Kane. Browse the mailing list. (You can search the archives, too). You may want to join the mailing list.

Best of luck!

I know that cemetary. It is still being maintained I believe. Someone has to be paid to cut the grass etc. Find out who pays the bills on the property (check tax assessors office or couunty clerks office) are there tax bills? where are they sent?

Years ago a church or group of churchs often maintained the cemetaries and the records. Even if they are not accepting new interments the church may still have the records or know who does. (possibly contact an area church). Hope that helps
